  Hi! To blog, at the very least you will need to set up a domain name — this is the website where people will be able to view your blog on the Internet. This can be either a free domain name (i.e. yoursite.wordpress.com), or a paid domain name (i.e. http://www.yoursite.com). You can do either of those options through WordPress.com, with the process described in this guide:

  You don’t need a domain name to create a site on WordPress.com, no. When you create a site we provide you with a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain that people can use to access your site, and that address is free for you to use for as long as you want.

  yoursite.wordpress.com is not a domain. It is a subdomain on the WordPress.com domain, and to avoid confusion we refer to that as the site address in order to clearly distinguish it from the various domain upgrades.
