I Don’t Know CSS!

Hi, I just started a blog and purchased the CSS upgrade and this is all ive managed to do. I don’t know any CSS, and i was just wondering if anyone could help me make my blog look more professional, or at least cleaner.

I suggest you do a forum search for CSS. You’ll find there is no staff support, and very few people who volunteer in the forums can help you, as most of us know little to nothing about it. There are suggested tutorials in those threads, so I suggest you start with those.

Why on earth did you pay for the upgrade without knowing how to use it?!?!!!

Do you have specific things you want to do with your blog? Try looking through some of the examples in this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=13627&replies=143#post-98711 for ideas of what can be done. Then have a look at the tutorials raincoaster mentioned.

Hey there bud, I am in the same boat as you are, I hardly know CSS, but I am slowly learning by editing other peoples themes. Feel free to add me to msn if you like from_depth[at]hotmail.com. I’m sure if I can or can’t help you we’ll both learn something.

Don’t worry CSS isn’t so hard – and the only way to learn is to use it – there are a few tools that might help you understand what’s possible. On the Mac I can recommend CSSEdit (I don’t use a PC so don’t know about Window’s apps), but generally you should look to something that helps you ID the relevant markup, preview your edits without uploading the new file and build new styles. Less functionally rich but good is the web developer extension in Firefox.

You might find it easier to edit an existing CSS. But depending on what you want to achieve you might need to implement your design using the Sandbox theme which gives you lots of markup to play with.

A couple of other pointers, IMHO you should try to be consistent in your positioning and size of images, consider the choice of font and colour esp if you’re going to use lots of images, and look at the use of white space.

    Good luck and have fun.
