I don't know how to create a space where my blog and shop can coexist

  Currently I have a blog with WordPress, but know I want a website with a tab linking to my blog.
  I want my blog to stay the same, but also have a online website where people can purchase items that I list – like an online shop.

  Is this possible?
  And if so, how do I go about setting it up?

  Yes, I would recommend looking at the plugin WooCommerce for a store. It will all work through WordPress nicely. See if your plan allows you to activate that.

  Let me know if that moves you in the right direction.

  Oh yes, I believe you will need to be on the Business Plan with WordPress.com hosting to integrate this.
