You can upload several kinds of filetypes in your blog posts and static pages.
The supported filetypes are listed here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/
This is the way to upload documents: http://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/
Other commenters may come along with a better answer than mine.

Look, start here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/introduction/
and http://learn.wordpress.comAlso: Word is a terrible program that will cause you a ton of problems with your blog. If you want to write offline, use Windows Live Writer or some other offline blog editor program.

BTW (by the way)
Here is a lexicon (dictionary) to help with the jargon folks use on WordPress.com: http://en.support.wordpress.com/lexicon/W
Widget: A self-contained area of a web page that performs a specific function. For example, you can use a widget to display your Twitter feed in your site’s sidebar.
In your case, you have widgets in your sidebar which have nothing to do with Twitter. You have a picture of yourself, some contact information (email address), a facebook link to your book, Recent Posts, and Recent Comments. Here is more information about other widgets you might want (or could use) in your sidebar: http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/widgets-sidebar http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/widgets-sidebars/
And as long as I’m expressing opinions and advice, I will mention that you should investigate using the contact form from WordPress.com rather than putting your email into your sidebar. It will protect you from many junk messages and spammers: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/
