I don’t see the ‘make private’ option
-
I just installed wordpress on my desktop and I intend on using it as a journal that I can access from anywhere but I don’t want everyone being able to read it. The FAQ mentions being able to go to options >> privacy and then there should be an option to make the site private unless the person is on the approved list. It’s not there, all I see is an option to keep the site private from search engines. Am I missing something?

If you installed it on your desktop, it must not be hosted on wordpress.com. You will have to ask this question over in the self-hosted forums at:
At first glance, you could use protected directories if you installed apache on your computer or search for the registered only plugin over in the other forums. There are quite a few plugins available and various solutions on self-hosted wordpress installations.
Hope that helps.
