  I have already used WordPress in the past. I recently remembered it and wanted to make a new website. I purchased a domain but I can’t seem to connect it for free? I remember around a year or two ago it used to be free to connect your own domain that you purchased. Is it a new thing that WordPress now costs money to connect your own domain you own? I have purchased the domain ‘recipebook.tk’

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  If I cannot use a domain that I have purchased is there any better alternatives to WordPress that let me do it completely for free (including connecting a domain I have already bought).

  Using a custom domain has always been something that requires a paid upgrade on WordPress.com. It is functionality that is included with all of our paid plans.

  If I cannot use a domain that I have purchased is there any better alternatives to WordPress that let me do it completely for free (including connecting a domain I have already bought).

  I do not know of any host that offers both hosting and a custom domain for free. That said, you might be able to find a special introductory deal somewhere that offers this. But even so, I suspect the price would jump up quickly (as usually happens with intro deals).
