I don’t understand advanced links.

I’ve been trying to figure out this link advanced option. I just don’t get it. I don’t understand image address. I would love for my blogroll folks to have pictures associated with either their recent post or a pic of their home page. I know there is an optional hover view with google—but that’s not what I’m talking about. So does this link image thing accomplish what I’m looking for? Does anyone have their blog set up with this feature so I can see what this is about? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In advance links section, the image would have to be a static image, either from the person’s site, or one that you make to represent their site. You could take a screen capture of their page and turn that into an image and upload it to your media library and then put the link to that image into the image field. You will have to size the image so that it will fit into the sidebar of the theme you are using. See my test blog and look under blogroll for an example. I took the screen cap of my blog and then cropped and resized/resampled it down to 175px wide.

When you upload an image to your blog, in the grey field under image URL at the bottom is the URL (address) that wordpress has assigned to that image. You can also find the URL’s of images you have already uploaded by going to media > edit in the dashboard, clicking on the thumbnail of the image you want the URL of and in the window that opens it will be in the grey field at the bottom of the window.

One think I’ll mention is that since you have a very long blogroll, it would not be a good idea to use images for every link. What you could do is to create a link category for the links you want to use images on and then only use images for those links and leave the rest as text links.

The other option is to use a very small image, but of course that means any detail will be lost.

Perfect explanation and I’ll give it a go tomorrow. I really like what you did with the blogroll image of your blog on your sidebar. And you sure write well! That is what I was looking for.

I like the post update for blogs but sometimes that leads you too quickly away cause you want to check out the subject matter. I want folks to stay longer at my blog and not hurry off. Having an image of their homepage is perfect.

I see you understand google ease fantastically. That’s something else I’ve been working on for weeks trying to understand. I took the html code and inserted it on a hidden page but I don’t think google is reading my blog well still. I’ll tackle that after I get my blogroll looking like I want.

Thanks so much for your help. I enjoy so much the learning process.
