I Don’t Understand How Domain Names Are ‘Taken’
-
Hello!
I would love some help trying to understand how some domains are coming up as taken, but if I type that URL into my browser, the location doesn’t exist. For example, I have a store on the domain http://www.goldbubbleclothing.com. So I wanted to have a blog subdomain that was blog.goldbubbleclothing.com here on WordPress. But it’s showing as taken. How is that possible?
Help, pretty please D:

Hi there,
To be able to use that subdomain, you’ll need to map it as explained here:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-subdomain/
Did you see the message that the domain was taken during this process?

Hey fresatomica!
Yes, on step one when it asks me to type in the domain I want to use, it tells me it’s already taken. And I’m confused as to how it could already be taken. Do I own it without knowing it because I own the main domain already?
I own goldbubbleclothing.com, and want to create a new domain of blog.goldbubbleclothing.com
Is “blog.goldbubbleclothing.com” a subdomain by default?

Subdomains cannot be created here.
You’ll need to start by first creating the subdomain under your hosting provider, consult their documentation for specifics.
Once the subdomain exists, you can map it following https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-subdomain/
