I don't understand why I am being asked to map my subdomain

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a subdomain called blog.swingsetdirect.com where I already have it hosted and wordpress installed. When I go to see it in a browser I get the following warning:

Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

I want to be able to host and manage my subdomain outside of wordpress.com. How do I do this? I am very confused by the direction that I have read hear and other places. This is a highly customized blog so I can’t have it hosted in wordpress.com as I will not be able to FTP

http://blog.swingsetdirect.com/ – loads to an empty WordPress.COM blog for me with the sub-domain working fine

it looks like you have a config issue – I have flagged this for the staff to help

    Invalid CNAME

Your domain has a CNAME record, but its value is incorrect. The record should point blog.swingsetdirect.com to blogdotswingsetdirectdotcom.wordpress.com. It is currently set to swingadmin.wordpress.com.

    More Information

There is information on how to set up domain mapping in our support documentation. If you need help after that, please contact our support team.
    Oops, No Primary Site Set

There is no primary domain set for blogdotswingsetdirectdotcom.wordpress.com. This means that although blog.swingsetdirect.com will forward to the site, blog.swingsetdirect.com will appear in the browser address bar. To learn more about setting a primary domain, please see our documentation.

Thats because I mapped. That isn’t my blog that lives in a remote server. What you see is the blog that lives at wordpress.com. Not what I want. I want to see my orignal blog.

Maybe I am not being clearn.

    1. I have a WP blog living on a server at Lunarpages.
    2. When I attempt to view the blog at blog.swingsetdirect.com I am getting the error message.

I want to be able to keep my original blog and not have to go with a hosted solution at WordPress.com. I need to be able to FTP and customize my own theme which I am unable to do if I map it

then don’t map your blog here to your web site – undo the domain mapping and delete the CNAME or whatever is sending traffic to a blog here

however if you are having config issues with your web site and setting the sub-domain up – you need to ask over at WordPress.ORG – they are the keepers of the software you would be using

    Hi Travis.

The domain mapping to blog.swingsetdirect.com has been completely removed from our end. I looked up the settings for your domain and can see that the following CNAME is still in place:

    blog.swingsetdirect.com IN CNAME swingadmin.wordpress.com

Your domain is still directing to a WordPress.com landing page as a result of the above CNAME being in place. To stop the redirect, you will need to login to the admin area of the site you registered swingsetdirect.com with and then remove the CNAME.

If you have further questions on how to do that then the company that you originally registered the domain with will be in the best position to help you out.

    Thanks!
