  Hello Colleagues

  I don’t want a blog. I want a website which has a mysql database which I can access with php. This is an area of computing I have little experience in. Where can I make the necessary changes to enable this to happen. When I signed up they gave me a choice of not having a blog and having a regular website. Any advice ?

  Yes you are in the wrong please. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct ecommerce and edit the database.

  First read this comparison http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ and then hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting and set up your own WordPress.ORG software install.

  Oh boy. I was really fooled. I assumed WordPress.com and WordPress.org were the same. Thanks for this tip. How many others have fallen into this trap ?

  I have just joined BlueHost for about $25 for a year. I am not sure what to do now. My wife is calling me so I will leave this now. If you can point to what I should do now so that I can quickly get a mysql database which I can work on that would be great.

  For starters make friends over at WordPress.ORG, they have the support documents for the software you will be using as well as a help forum. Check the support forum, you can probably find some questions & answers to some of your questions already ask and answered.
