when i login to wordpress.com, this is what comes up:
You don’t have any WordPress sites yet.
Would you like to start one?1. i click create a site and select:
Blog
Share and discuss ideas, updates, or creations.2. under Tell us about your blog i type
website designer3. for What would you like to call your blog?
idontcarejustgivemeablog and continue4. the only free option available to me is idontcarejustgivemeablog.design.blog
ugh!
how do i just get a simple, free wordpress.com subdomain like idontcarejustgivemeablog.wordpress.complease help!

Use the Back link or browser button and uncheck all the boxes at step 1. If you check only the Share ideas one, you’ll be presented with .blog subdomains. Leave that blank, and you’ll get a .wordpress.com option.

thank you for your reply but i wonder if i must delete my account and start over. i switched browsers, logged in and when i get to step 1, Blog: Share and discuss ideas, updates or creations radio button is selected by default. there is no way to deselect it. my only other options are Business, Professional, Education or Online Store. so one of these 5 options has to be selected.
