I don’t want comment moderation
-
I’m very new in wordpress and I’ve trying to make comments totally free, wothout moderation and I can’t . Any ideas?
-
Certainly, we all have complete control over comment moderation or lack thereof. And if we so choose we can open comment up completely to the whole cyber world, including spammers, cyber stalkers and trolls. This is how to do that -> Dashboard -> Options -> Discussion
You are now on the Discussion Options page and you can mark the check boxes to suit your choice. When you get to Before a comment appears: … don’t check any of the boxes. When you are done click “Update Options”. -
Also make sure that you have the membership box unchecked at Dashboard -> Options -> General. That tells the software that you want everybody to be allowed to comment, not just those with accounts.
Hope this helps,

I’m sorry to bring this old post up again, but this is the exact problem I am having. Both suggestions here I tried aren’t working. I unchecked all 3 boxes where it says “Before a comment appears”, and clicked on update options. I don’t have “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” checked either. When I write a test message, I’m constantly told the comment is awaiting moderatation. I’ve also deleted my temp files, history and cookies thinking I might be looking at a cached version, but I’m not. Any help on turning this off for good would be great. If need be I can turn back on, but I want to turn it off for now. Also, I’m using IE 7.0.5730.11 is makes any difference. Thank you to any help anyone can give me, I appreciate it.

Must be the snow. :) (I can see your IP address as a moderator)
Need to see one of these comments to take a guess really. It may be your ISP. They’re rather known for being a spam source which may be why it’s being dropped into the moderation queue.
-
are you inserting more than 2 links in your comments? that will always trigger moderation. you can up the number to 5 or 10 on the Options > Discussion page.

It could be the snow, it ruins everything else, why not my blog at the same time? Lol. I’ll keep in mind my ISP, however I don’t how they have any control over whether or a post must be approved? I’m not inserting any links in the post, in fact all I had written was “testing!” As for number of links allowed, I have this set at 0 actually. If keywords are affecting it, can I turn keywords off somewhere? I don’t see it anywhere here. Sorry to like an idiot, just signed up yesterday. I very much appreciate the quick and helpful replies.

If all it was was the one word, between that and the ISP, that may have been the issue.
Everything sounds right. If you want, send in a feedback and ask staff to look at the issue.
-
It’s very odd, but I will do as you suggested and send in feedback and see what happens, thanks a bunch.

is there a way to not have to approve comments, but still have the option to edit them if one wants to?

I’m having a similar problem. I want comments to go to moderation when it’s the first time a person comments but not after that, but I’ve had repeat commenters and still every comment goes to moderation. I have the thing about members only unchecked, “allow people to post comments” checked, “an administrator must always approve the comment” unchecked, and the name & email requirement and the previous comment requirement checked. It’s set to go to moderation if there are two links, but many if not all of the comments I’ve gotten have no links, and they usually haven’t used the words I flagged.
Are any of those settings wrong? -
If they’re commenting from different computers, it might function that way. Sounds to me like you’ve got the settings right.
-
I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS? I want people to leave a comment WITHOUT moderation after they have been approved the FIRST time. However I can not get this to happen, manually approving every comment is getting really annoying!

@jasmate
Please go to the page indicated and read carefully through all of the options. Then check off the appropriate fields to achieve what you want.Dashboard -> Options -> Discussion
Discussion OptionsUsual settings for an article:
(These settings may be overridden for individual articles.)* Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)
* Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
* Allow people to post comments on the articleE-mail me whenever:
* Anyone posts a comment
* A comment is held for moderationBefore a comment appears:
* An administrator must always approve the comment
* Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
* Comment author must have a previously approved commentClick “Update Options” to save.
Once you have done this you will have to moderate only the first comment any blogger makes and after you approve that comment their following comments will not require moderation.
If this does not work then you will have to use the “Support” button on any admin side blog page on the top right hand corner to report the problem to staff, during support hours.

Jasmate, please don’t post the same thing to two different threads. It only means it takes us twice as long to help you.
If the commenters clear their cookies, they might not be recognized as having been approved, although I am not 100% sure about that.
