I don't want to force subscribers to get a wordpress blog.
-
I want my blog to be private, with only those I invite to be allowed to view it. However I do not want them to have to create a blog of their own in order to view my blog, as this is a huge deterrent for many viewers. Is there a way for Viewers to create a login/password, but bypass the step of creating a blog url??

yes – they just need an account not a blog – the sign-up for an account / blog has a check box or something (been a while) that they can choose just a name – last time I was there it was a bit obscure – on the good side if they do make a blog by mistake they don’t need to use it – it can just site there forever
Tell them to read the instructions carefully as they go along –
