I don't want to renew my personal domain but you seem to be bullying me into it
-
i bought a domain from you for my wordpress blog last year but decided not to renew that domain. When anyone goes to my blog now they are faced with a message page that tells them that I didn’t renew the domain … but that this link will still work … excel2007master.wordpress.com … it does not work. It appears that I am being bullied into renewing that domain registration.
Please advise as a matter of urgency.
Best wishes

Try:
Dashboard >> Store >> Domains >> set the domain back to: excel2007master.wordpress.com
If that does not work someone has flagged this for the staff to help you

I was trying to look behind this problem and found this message when I tried to get to my three wordpress blogs’ dashboard:
duncanwil.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this blog.I have NOT deleted anything of the kind.
Is this what happens when someone decides not to renew a domain?
-
No but this can happen when someone is not security conscious and the blog is hacked though. However, as this thread is tagged for Staff support and there’s nothing we Volunteers can do Staff will check this out and respond to you. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they examine your blog and respond.

Thanks auxclass, that’s why I wanted to go to my dashboard since I did remember this setting. However, I cannot get to my dashboard as it tells me the blog has gone.
This is a major shame if that is true as I have THREE blogs with wordpress one of which has masses of work in it. Yes, I’ve got the work but putting it all back together would be a real pain.

No – domains are not deleted for failure to renew anything – domains can be deleted for violation of the terms of service but the message would be different –
Somebody with your credentials and access to your email account deleted that blog – there is a confirming email that is sent to the email address of record for all deletions –
best you change the password to your email account that had access to that blog

I’ve got the wordpress App on my iPhone and was able to do what Auxclass suggested by restting the blog back to the domain it used to have. Maybe there is a time delay on changing such settings but so far it has not worked.
I have resolved the duncanwil.wordpress.com problem now.

Try this: enter http://excel2007master.wordpress.com on your computer and see if it gives you the error message,
Oh no! This domain excel2007master.com expired 28 days ago!
Please contact the owner of this website and ask them to renew the domain. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to view the site at this web address: excel2007master.wordpress.com.
-
When I click on the gray I can get to your blog – but the domain is still showing the mapped domain –
-
This is the result of me clicking that link:
Oh no! This domain excel2007master.com expired 28 days ago!
Please contact the owner of this website and ask them to renew the domain. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to view the site at this web address: excel2007master.wordpress.com.

If you look in the Tags list on the right-hand side you’ll see “modlook” which draws staff attention.

Ok, duncanwil and excel2007master, I trust you are the same user, despite the different usernames.
As our trusty forum volunteers have already noted:
An expired domain does not delete a blog. If the expired domain is still listed as the primary domain on the blog, however, you will indeed see that message about the expired domain. You can simply log into the appropriate user account and get to the dashboard by using your blog URL (not your custom domain URL) and adding /wp-admin to the end of the string. So, excel2007master.wordpress.com/wp-admin
I see no blogs associated with duncanwil user account, but I do see that the user deleted the blog duncanwil.wordpress.com 190 days ago.
The blogs I see associated with excel2007master:
the aforementioned excel2007master.wordpress.com
wordwisewilly.wordpress.com
victoryint.wordpress.comIf I go to your domain page (Dashboard > Store > Domains) for excel2007master.wordpress.com:
https://excel2007master.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domainsI see that your primary domain is correctly set to your blog URL, since you do not wish to renew this domain. Your users, then, will have to type in excel2007master.wordpress.com to see your blog, not excel2007master.com.
I hope that helps clear things up!

Thank you Zandyring.
Yes, duncanwil and excel2007master are both mine. Initially, I allowed myself to be confused by the red herring of the deleted blog … I resolved that problem very quickly once I’d thought about it.
As you can see from earlier posts in this thread, I was able to get to my dashboard via my iPhone app for wordpress and redirect visitors back to excel2007master.wordpress.com … that this failed to work for everyone was, I think, due to not having waited for that change to become fully active.
I have checked through my setting and I have been able to use my blog now without let or hindrance.
I appreciate your help and the help of others on this thread.
Best wishes
Duncan
