I don't want words turned into links / ads

  • Unknown's avatar

I paid for my wordpress site, assuming it meant I won’t have any kind of advertising. But i’m finding that some words turn into links which are ads.
I’m not so happy about that to begin with, but i’m particularly disturbed that certain words are links to borderline porn sites (ok… not porn… but definitely not PG either… can you guess where the word “girl” linked to???)
I have a lot of young readers (under 18) and this is a SERIOUS ISSUE

PLEASE for god’s sake take out these ads, or at least keep them PG! And I paid 100 dollars for the year, does that seriously not cover the whole ‘No-Ad’ thing you have?

Please help me out here before I lose readers :(
    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Your WordPress.com Premium package does indeed include our No Ads upgrade. Our advertisements also do not take the form of turning certain words in to links.

In cases such as this, ads such as you are describing are not placed on your site by WordPress.com. They are being placed there by software on your own computer. Frequently there is even a text notice below banner ads that say “Ads not by this site”. These ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or toolbar that you may have installed in your browser.

These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads:

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions.
