I enter my API key and get a 404 error

  I have a valid API key and when I enter it in my Akismet Configuration page in the “Please enter an API key (Get your key.)” and click on “Update options >>” I get the 404 error like the next page isn’t there or needs to be CHMOD’ed. HELP!!!!

  I found 2 threads on the self-hosted forums that might help you out: #1 and #2. Not sure if that is your issue, but it would seem that it might be.

  Thanks Trent, but my error is different. I don’t know if my key is valid (it must be) but I just get the Page not found error 404. I am also checking with wordpress.org’s forum…

  Maybe head over to the “global dashboard” and check your profile to find out if you copy and pasted it wrong. It shouldn’t give you a 404 though…..the other thing would be clear your browser cache and try again or see if you can get it to save in a different browser. If you post something up in the wordpress.org forums as well you might get a faster answer as there are more users with input there as all wordpress.com users don’t have to do what you are doing for their blogs as it is done automatically! WordPress.org users have a tendency to know more solutions to problems like this!

  Thanks again Trent, I am sure the number is correct, but a different browser is an easy thing to try. The .org folks haven’t answered yet… ;-(
