I forgot to transfer ownership before deleting my site owner’s account.

A long time ago, I gave one of my accounts administrator access to my site, believing I had full permissions. I’ve since returned to the blog and intended to change the site address, but I’m being told that only the owner can do this. I am now trying to recover my account, but I do not have any of the ownership proofs (no upgrades purchases, deleted the verification link and had no 2FA set.) I was hoping I could prove ownership of the site through other means, as I do have personal information that would link to me as the owner of the site. It would be great to find some way to transfer ownership to my new account and change the domain name, as I would love to keep all of my old posts.

Site: (email visible only to moderators and staff).
    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hi there,

What is the name of the account you are trying to recover?

If it is the account that created the site storyofasquare.wordpress.com, it was deleted some time ago and as a result, has been purged and cannot be restored. I can see that you’re the only admin on the account now that the owner has deleted their account.

However, you should be able to recover the site via email. Do you happen to remember the email you used when you were the owner of the account (before you transferred the site to another owner)? If you still have access to that email, I can have you email us from that address and that will verify ownership for you.

    Let me know, thanks!
