I get a “Stop running this script” notice when I update
-
When I paste information like a spreadsheet in the pages section as I am waiting for it to paste I keep getting the warning yellow triangle from Windows Internet Exlorer saying ” Stop running this script? A script on this page is causing the Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run your computer might become unresposive.”
When I click on (no) on the sign it goes back to attempt to paste. Eventually it will paste but sometimes I have had to hit yes and I loose everything I had put on the page.

First off, pasting from excel into wordpress can cause issues since excel really doesn’t speak “web” and typically brings in all sorts of stuff that can muck things up.
Does this only happen when you are trying to paste a spreadsheet?

I will have to think aobut that and get back to you. I think that it “is” only when I post a spread sheet. What I have done is to take the spreadsheet and open it in word. Then I past it.. I do not know that pasting it in word removes all the spread problems. It probably does not. How could I copy the info from a spreadsheet to wordpress wihtout it messing up the system. I know that word and the spreadsheet Special paste options have different ways to paste. Do you know if any of those will work and if you do which one?
Thanks in advance,

Pasting from word actually introduces another layer of problems, because word is even further from speaking web.
Here is my suggestion if you need tables in your blog. Download and install windows live writer on your computer. My understanding is that you can easily paste stuff directly into it from word or excel and it will actually create completely compliant HTML.
Windows Live Writer is a blog client, and it has a lot of great features and an incredible amount of control. You can create blog posts directly in it, complete with images or whatever, and then it will actually publish it directly to your blog. No need for copy and paste.
Copying and pasting from word will always get you in trouble, and I’ve spent far too many hours trying to help bloggers straighten out their blogs after they have copied and pasted from Word. It was for a while the most common issue here in the forums.
Download WLW and give it a try. It is free, and I SO wish there was a Mac version.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon,
I would have reponded to your advice sooner but I have been trying to get the Live Writer to work for me. I installed it. When I cut and past to the page where you do your editing on WLW and then hit the publish button, the info only goes into my blog post of my blog. It will not publish to the pages section of my blog. After I have posted and you look at what it posted the whole format of what I had turns into just lines of sentences. I know you are not a support person for WLW but I thought maybe you might something simple to fis this problem. I hope you could even understand my problem.

Double check in the help files with WLW. It was my understanding from something I read a while ago that they were adding support for pages.

I just encountered this problem with “stop running this script” today, when I was just trying update a page. I’m typing directly into the box, I’m not pasting anything from Word. The page is entirely text that I’m trying to edit and I keep on getting that “stop running this script” message. I don’t know what may have caused it. It’s very annoying because whatever I edit is wiped out; I can’t even edit the page to remove it from my blog until I’ve fixed the formatting.

Try this: Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try again.

Here’s Microsoft Support about it. I don’t think IE8 is covered, however: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/175500

Also run 2 or 3 anti-malware scannings – trojans and others charming stuff can cause this. Try these free ones:
MBAM: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
SAS: http://www.superantispyware.com/
BDOscan: http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html -
If it helps…The following error is specific to one post, pasting or saving into pre-posted text. Older and newer posts are not affected. Error occurred both before and after latest java upgrade version 6 upgrade 15, firefox/3.0.14. with clean system. I may rebuild the affected post.
Unresponsive script
Script: http://myblog.wordpress.com/wp-content/plugins/syntaxhighlighter/syntaxhighlighter_mce.js?ver=3241-1141-sh2.3.0:9 -
Got the error, and now I have a massive problem on multiple browsers with multiple computers on wordpress. It locks up the computer and runs the CPU through the roof on a regular basis, locking everything up for a solid half a minute; without explanation, and this was only after I got those script messages.

We are seeing this also, started last night resulting in loss of all text typed into the editor. Today I tried to edit a draft on a different computer, got the error message and thought better of trying to do any more ….
System: Firefox 3.5.3, windows XP, Norton anti-virus, zonealarm

I too started getting this when trying to update my front page. Had to restore an older version (which is OK).
Contacted staff as suggested and they got back pretty quickly, saying they had fixed the problem.
So, I tried again, but still got the problem. I am now running out of good versions that I can restore….
-
By the way – I get the error even when trying to update a “good” copy of my front page, without making any changes – i.e. no typing, no pasting, no uploads. Nothing but an update.
Seems especially bad if I try to switch from Visual to HTML mode.

I’ve also just started having this problem with this script:
I’ve tried two different computers, both Macs.

Re: thesacredpath
That’s what I did (logging out of WP, clearing cache and restarting Internet), but I have to keep doing it every time I want to update the page and it is a frustrating process.
-
This problem seems to be running rampant. Anybody get a helpful answer from support yet?

Contact staff directly on this at http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ and give them details including what browser and br
• browser(s) and browser version(s) it is happening on
• any installed browser add-ons
• operating system being used
• the exact error message being reported
• if it is happening on only one post, include a link to that postIn situations like this, too much detail is never enough.
