I get this error: Your subscription could not be activated. It may have expired, or the email address you subscribed with is not attached to your WordPress.com account when I try to subscribe to a blog for emails with my mnon-wordpress email account

  I have been trying to subscribe to email feed for the blog:
  https://www.helpmegeek.com
  with my gmail account which is not associated with WordPress.
  When I click the subscription confirmation link that I receive in my email I get this error:
  Your subscription could not be activated. It may have expired, or the email address you subscribed with is not attached to your WordPress.com account.
  Why is this happening? Does it mean that only users with wordpress account can subscribe to such emails?

  Hi @umairhp, can you try opening the link in an incognito window to see if that helps?

  The bit about it not being associated with your account makes me think you’re logged in with another account here.

  But I wasn’t. I subscribed with my gmail account which is not associated with a WordPress account. Then I tried to do it with a custom domain email account and got the same error when I clicked the confirmation link.

  What is the email address you tried?

  If you post it here normally, only staff will be able to see it.

  Ok now it just worked. I tried doing it with the same email address with a different browser and it worked. Nut I don’t know why it wasn’t working before? Can you explain?

  It must’ve been a cache issue. If you try to subscribe to another feed under the browser that gave you the initial error and you receive that error again, try clearing your cache and see if that resolves the issue:

  Yes, one can subscribe with an email address without having a WordPress.com account. They will need to click the confirmation link.

  If someone who is logged into their WordPress.com account, as you are now, clicks a confirmation link for an email not associated with that account, I think you’ll get an error. Using another browser or an incognito window would fix it.

  But the person would not be subscribed until they clicked the link successfully.
