I give up…
-
Have been trying to enable sending email using my domain via gmail for the last hour and keep on getting stuck. I reach the ‘Add another email address you own
Send mail through your SMTP server’ on the gmail set up process then get an error message that says ‘Your other email provider is responding too slowly. Please try again later, or contact the administrator of your other domain for further information.’ I’ve confirmed my login and pw several times. Is there something I’m missing regarding the SMTP server syntax or correct ports?
Please help!
Thanks,

Hi there,
I see you have two email forwarding addresses set up for your domain. Emails sent to those addresses should automatically appear in your Gmail inbox, without you needing to do anything on Gmail’s side. Is that working?
Trying to connect an SMTP server won’t work, because there isn’t one. Email forwarding means that any message sent to those addresses, are forwarded by us to your WordPress.com account email address. There is no server connected to your domain where emails are stored, as they go directly to your Gmail address.
If you’re trying to set it up that you can send emails FROM your Gmail address but have it appear as if it’s from your domain address, that’s not possible. It’s called using an email alias, and used to be possible, but Google changed that some time last year. Now if you want to use Gmail to send from another address, you will need to have a Google Apps email account, at $50 a year.
