I got a strange mailing from 'WordPress.com'

  The mailing said:

  We attempted to renew your WordPress.com subscription but experienced a problem taking payment. If you wish to continue with the subscription please log in to your account and update your card details. Your subscription will be cancelled if payment cannot be made.

  Total $30.00

  It referred to one of my email addresses I never use and felt suspicious (e.g., it didn’t have an active link for ‘log in to your account’ but did have one for ‘update your card details’. So I went onto my WordPress.com account and there is no record of any card on file, nor of payments since 2007. Is this a phishing email or am I missing some payment that I’ll need to make?

  Hi tomatlee,

  This definitely sounds like a typical phising e mail. I wouldn’t take any further action if I were you. I would move this to spam, junk for certain.
  Always be very suspicious of e mails asking you about filling in your cc details/account suspended, etc.
  If it seems suspicious, it almost always is my friend..!
