    A blog is a website.

A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.

What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.

Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

re: locating drafts and post and page revisions

The classic editor retains 25 auto-saved post revisions but the new Beep Beep Boop editor does not. The post revision management system is not built into the new Beep Beep Boop editor, so saving the draft saves only the most recent version, but not previous versions.

In the new Beep Beep Boop editor the most recent version is saved only on your browser, and is not auto-saved to the servers for your blog unless you click the save link once.

If you are using the new Beep Beep Boop editor please read:

Features that won’t be included in the new editor
    Post Revisions
    Copy a Post
    Link back to wp-admin
    From https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format

re: recovering a lost post or page
Please go to https://wordpress.com/post with the same browser and see if it offers to restore a post. If a restore button appears, that means a local copy was saved in your browser and you may be able to recover it.

If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Pages > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/

See also if applicable > restoring from trash http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

To locate draft POSTS Dashboard > Posts > All Post > Drafts
    http://northcountryqh.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=post

To locate draft PAGES Dashboard > Pages> All Pages > Drafts
    http://northcountryqh.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=page

(If you are referring to a Page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/)

If you cannot restore from your browser, or locate a revision, or restore from Trash then the content has been lost and cannot be recovered.

    I recommend:

    1. Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > Add New and pages at Dashboard > Pages > Add New
If you have cookies enabled on your browser your preference will be saved unless or until your clear your cookies, and it will take you to the classic editor automatically every time you create a new post via the drop-down menu in the black admin bar or edit a post via the edit button on the blog itself.

You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

    2. Immediately after creating a post and entering a title click the save draft link. Thereafter, “click save draft” frequently.

    3. Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.

    4. Never leave a post or page open for content creation or editing and walk away from it, or open another tab in the same blog and work on something else while it is still open. Save it properly and return to edit it later.

    5. Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

Are you trying to purchase a domain mapping upgrade here for mapping from http://northcountryqh.wordpress.com/ to http://northcountryqh.com?

I think that may be the case so I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

  • Hi @beefisus ,

Last night and today, I still am not able to go to
northcountryqh.com and find a blog or even a website.. it has ads on it and also a for sale sign for the url… please help me… lost in space.

Can you log into the site where you bought the domain and look for Manage Domain > Name Servers? You’ll want to use these settings:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

Once you’ve done that, let us know so we can check it for you. Right now, because your domain points to some other servers, you’re seeing that site with the ads on it. I’ve made northcountryqh.wordpress.com accessible again for now so you can use it until those domain changes take effect.

My husband and I have owned the domain for about 8 years now..WWW.northcountryqh.com It was created with DreamWeaver and my computer is not compatable with that program.. I can’t even get on the site… so I am totally lost. I will have to look at it in the morning.. it’s late now. thanks. Linda

  • Actually you won’t need Dreamweaver to change the domain. You would just need to log in to the place where you bought it.

Do you and your husband pay for this domain every year still? If so, contact the place you send the money to and they’ll be able to help. The domain is currently registered through http://www.onamae.com/ .

If that site does not seem familiar, and if you are no longer paying yearly domain registration fees, someone else probably owns the domain now and you will want to choose a new one. If that is the case, let me know and I’ll refund or credit your mapping so you can buy a new domain.

Please refund my credit card.. My host neglected to tell me that she wasn’t hosting my domain anymore.. So it is not available.. it is in use as of today by someone else.. Thank you. I also paid for a premium package for $79.00 please refund me that also.. along with the mapping for $13.00 thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

haven’t heard back… would like my credit card refunded for both items. thanks

  • That’s done now. Cheers.
