I HATE BLOCKS.
-
I HATE BLOCKS. I have been happily blogging since 2012. I don’t need anything fancy. It feels like WordPress has no respect for us ‘diary’ bloggers. I have no confidence in a purchased plan as I feel I have been treated very badly by WordPress. Is there any way of going back t the Classic Editor that existed before Blocks reared their ugly head. I could do that and know that way of posting was supported and respected I would be more willing to consider a paid plan – but I am seriously considering moving to another bogging platform.

Hi,
The Classic Editor is still available to all WordPress.com users, and it’s still free. Here’s the Classic Editor support page, and the recently revised How to Access the Classic Editor section of that support page.

Hello there, Staff have advised time and again that eventually the Classic Editor option will go away. So please take the opportunity and try out the block editor in a test post or page to get a feel for it. It’s easier to use than you might think.
The default block is the paragraph block, so place your cursor in the editing area and just start writing without selecting any block. If you need a new paragraph, click ENTER/RETURN like you’ve always done and in the background a new paragraph block will be added for you, so just keep writing. You don’t need to first add a Paragraph block and then continue writing.
All the text formatting tools you need (Bold, Italic, justification, links, text color, etc.) are available in the toolbar above the paragraph you are writing in. If that toolbar gets in your way, you can pin it to the top bar by clicking on the three dots at the top right and then clicking on “Top toolbar.”
WordPress.com published a guide on working with the Block Editor specifically for Writers and Bloggers that don’t want or need all the bells and whistles that the Block editor offers at:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor-for-writers-bloggers/And if you’d like to write in a more familiar environment, the Classic Block was made for you https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
Lastly, if you’ve developed a particular way of writing/working in your WordPress.com website over the years that you don’t see how you can translate to the Block Editor, please let us know the details on your writing process.

Thank you for your reply.
Thank you for the links.
The Block Editor seems to have made it a very convoluted process to add photos. -
Hello again, Adding images is also pretty straightforward in the block editor.
In general, when in the Block editor, hit ENTER/RETURN and then
/imageand you’ll be presented with a number of options. Regardless, of which one you choose, you’ll be able to upload directly from the block or insert from your Media Library. Can you link to a page or post on your site where you’ve added images so I can get an idea of the kind of thing you usually do? Thanks.

Thanks for moving my post to its own thread. I’d still like the OP to know that I agree, though. If that’s okay. I also hate blocks. :-)

Is there any way I can register my need to stay with the Classic Editor that existed before Blocks arrived – I am not the only one who would like this – surely the loyal bloggers who don’t need to commercialise our sites and have no interest in managing them on mobile devices, can be accommodated.
-
Thank you for your support Diane – I wish your comment had been left in this thread so that it can be seen that I am not alone.
-
Thank you – I do know this and have to go ‘the long way round’ to access it, but I really do want it registered that this is NOT OK for those of us who do not want all the commerce driven gismos.

Hi there,
There is no longer a way to default to the classic editor on WordPress.com. You would need to follow the instructions that @musicdoc1 provided in order to access the editor moving forward:
https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/#how-to-access-the-classic-editor
The only option to reinstall the classic editor on WordPress.com is through the classic editor plugin:
However, since it is a plugin, that requires the Business Plan
Hope that helps.

Also try this: Try putting this in your browser bar: https://your-site-name.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
