  Why didn’t WordPress inform me that not all my posts was going to be imported? I am very disappointed to have lost all my quality work because your site clearly showed me that all my posts were being imported only to find out that I lost more than a year’s worth of my words!!! I am a writer and therefore my words are my soul. This is very painful for me. Please find a way to retract what I lost. I have already deactivated the blog which I imported from.

  If you have a valid and complete export file, all your words are in the file. The xml export file is a specially formatted plain text file that can be opened with any text editor – there is a lot of other stuff in the file (links, comments and such) – but all the words for the Posts and Pages are in the file –

  PS – never deactivate the old site before the new site is fully verified – stuff happens

  Is this xml export file available in WordPress?

  The file should be on your PC – it is created when the content is exported from a blog – usually the file is saved onto your PC so you can link to it when you do your import – the file is then copied up to the server when the import is done.

  I did not know that. Thank you very much for that useful information. Do you know where it usually goes? Or what the file name usually is?

  The file will be an “xml” file – your file would have been from an outside site – try searching for an “xml” extension “*.xml”

  you can also try a file with you old URL or site title

  Where did you move from? (your old blog site & service)

  Did you do an Import of the old content?

  I have flagged this for staff attention, but they are a bit backed up right now so please be patient – if you came from a blogging platform I am not familiar with they might be able to explain things a bit better than I have about any files etc.
