I HATE WORDPRESS

  • Unknown's avatar

I paid for a plan to allow me to monetize. Cost me $200! They moved my website to a staging website, meaning no one can see my content. I just found this out and canceled my subscription and now I can not talk to anyone regarding it. They tell me to go to the forum like anyone here can help me. This seriously makes me want to kill myself because I had that site for nearly ten years and now no one can see it and they are forcing me to upgrade to use my THE WEBSITE DOMAIN I HAD BEFORE THAT WAS FREE TO UPGRADE IT FOR $200!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Penelope,

I can totally understand how upsetting this feels, and I’m really sorry that this experience has left you feeling overwhelmed.  I’ll clarify everything about your site so you know exactly what happened and help with the next steps.

On all websites that have a plugin-enabled plan like Premium, once plugin features are activated, the default site address changes from the free .wordpress.com address to a .wpcomstaging.com address. This is why your site moved from inquisitivepenelope.wordpress.com to inquisitivepenelope.wpcomstaging.com after the upgrade. Nothing was taken offline. The original .wordpress.com address still works in such cases and simply redirects to the new address.

We have a guide that explains this in detail here: https://wordpress.com/support/changing-site-address/#change-a-wpcomstaging-com-address

I also want to clarify the cancellation part because I can see this caused confusion. Your upgrade to Premium was outside the 14-day refund window, which is why an automatic refund didn’t happen. When a paid plan is canceled outside the window, the site moves back to a free plan. In situations like this, you simply need to reach out so we can restore the previous plan before the upgrade. I understand that not being able to reach someone right away through other medium than forums added to your frustration.

I have reached out to you via email at your WordPress.com account email with more details and the next steps to help you further. Let’s continue our conversation there so that we can assist you more closely.
