    Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear that WordPress.org isn’t working out for you, but it’s great that you’re coming back to us!

What problems are you having with the migration process? Basically all you need to do is reverse what you did when you moved over to WordPress.org.

You’ll need to export your blog from WordPress.org. Here’s the help article on how to do so:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Tools_Export_Screen

Once you have the export file, make sure your WordPress.org site is still online (so that we can go and fetch your media files and whatnot), and go import your that file in to your WordPress.com site. Here’s the help article on doing so:

    Import a Website

Once that’s completed, your two blogs should have identical content (you’ll want to go through and verify to make sure everything came over OK). At that point you’ll just need to change your domain’s nameservers back to us by following this help article:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

And set your nameservers to ours:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

And you’ll be all done! Let me know if you have any questions!

    Hello,

    Thank you! My question is:

Once you have the export file, make sure your WordPress.org site is still online (so that we can go and fetch your media files and whatnot)

What do you mean make sure it is not still on-line? How do I do that?

    Thank you,
    Ting

You’ll need to make sure that it IS still online! You just need to make sure that you don’t cancel your WordPress.org site as soon as you download the export file or anything like that.

The export file contains all of your posts, your pages, your comments, etc. But so that it is manageable in size, it doesn’t contain any media. So all of your images, etc are all left on your WordPress.org site for the time being.

When you go and perform the Import at WordPress.com, our system uses the file that you uploaded as a roadmap to find those media files, download them to your WordPress.com blog, and put them all in the right places. That’s why you need to make sure you leave your WordPress.org site up. Just leave it where it is for the moment, and then follow the instructions which I included to change the nameservers after the blog content is transferred over.

Okay, thanks! Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I am trying to change the name servers back to wordpress.com. I originally purchased a domain name through wordpress.com, and I think it was outsourced to Wild Wild West. I went to my dashboard –> store –> domains –> manage DNS subscriptions. Not sure if this right.

Can you please advise how I can change my DNS server to:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    Thank you!
    Ting

    Hello,

Actually I was able to figure out, I found another article! The import was successful and I was able to change the DNS server.

At what point then should I take my wordpress.org site OFF line so that everything flows through my wordpress.com site?

    Thank you,
    Ting

I also noticed after the import that I now have TWO blogs, both titled “The Good Life”. One only has 10 posts with 5 comments and the other has 38 posts with 67 comments. In total, I should have 38 posts and 74 comments.

Yet, I got an email that the import was successful. I don’t know why the numbers don’t tie?

You do indeed have a couple of different blogs, but in this

    http://okaytodayblog.wordpress.com/

You appear to have all of the posts and about 80 comments (many of which have come in over the last few hours). It looks like it’s worked!

Is there a way to combine the TWO BLOGS into 1? It’s very confusing because now I don’t know which one to update. Why wouldn’t they be the same one? I’m very confused, sorry.

Also, can I now make my wordpress.org inactive/ discontinue it/ take it offline?

Thank you very much for your time & help!

Do you know if I can cancel my wordpress.org account yet?

  • Unknown's avatar

You can’t really merge two blogs in to one, however if there isn’t any content which you don’t need in the one WordPress.com blog, you can delete it by following the instructions right here:

    Delete a Website

Please keep in mind that these steps are completely permanent and once you do them you cannot get the blog back, nor can you use the blog name for another blog. It’s gone! So just make sure you want to do it.

As for your WordPress.org account, if you’ve gone through your WordPress.com site and made sure everything is there, then feel free! You can go and disable that site whenever you’d like.

My husband who subscribes to my blog did not get an email after I updated my blog with a new post :( Does this mean I lost all of my followers? Can you please help me out here?

  • Unknown's avatar

Also, do you know if all of my previous “likes” have been erased too?? :(

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve gone ahead and migrated all of your followers back from your old blog to this one, so your subscribers should receive notifications from this point on.

Unfortunately there’s no way to transfer likes however. Your articles will have to start over again at zero.
