I have 2 accounts with same email address, now can’t login to one of them!

Hi, I recently created a new account paid for through Go Daddy hosting. I had forgotten that I have in the past already set up a free account on wordpress.com using the same email address. The problem I have now is whenever I try to login to my new paid for account I can only get into my old account which I don’t use and is no good to me. I’m desparately trying to access my new account which I am paying for. I have tried resetting password using the username (not email) of my new account but its seems to only reset my old account. It seems wordpress can’t tell apart the 2 accounts. Is this even possible or am I doing something wrong?

It sounds like you’re using the stand alone WordPress installation rather than WordPress.com. Please share the site address and I will be happy to confirm that and get you headed in the right direction for help.

Yes I believe the original old account was WordPress.com and the new one is the better version of WordPress (standalone/wordpress.org??) hosted through GoDaddy. GoDaddy sent me the link to login to my new website on WordPress but it’s not accepting my password which I believe i am entering correctly. The login screen gives the option to enter either username or email address. Even if I enter the username of my new account (which is very different to the username of my old account) it won’t accept the password. When I try to reset password using new username it resets my old account password. I know my new account exists because if I put in a random username it tells me that username does not exist. Hope that makes sense.

I wouldn’t necessarily say one is better than the other. It’s like the difference between a restaurant and a recipe. With one, things are taken care of for you, with the other you’re on your own, but you can change it however you like:
You’re posting in the forums for the sites hosted here at WordPress.com. Can you send a link to the site you’re trying to log into? Or, if you just go to that site and type /wp-admin after the address, you should be prompted to log in. And you can reset your password there if needed.
