I have my own domain name. I do not know how to attach it to wordpress so I can start making a new page

A help page said go to upgrade – add domain. There is no such button. I have used a whole evening just deleting a webpage and trying to start building my old website up again

OK, I sorted that out. I had a web page operating using Elelemntor that just became impossible to fix, so I deleted it through my hosting, Now I am coming back to set up my web page with the domain name I already had and have been using on wordpe=ress and it wants me to pay $120 for what I have already had. I don’t know what to do.

  • Hi there! WordPress.com is a hosting platform, similar to your other hosting. Just to check, were you wanting to set up a site here on WordPress.com and use our hosting services with your domain, instead of your other hosting (where you mentioned that you deleted your page that was using Elementor) ?

If so, feel free to let us know more about what sort of page you’re trying to set up and we’re happy to point you in the right direction!

Essentially, there are two ways to use WordPress, you can either use the WordPress software downloaded from WordPress.org onto a web host (also known as self-hosted), or you may host your site with us here at WordPress.com. You can learn more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here:

AS I have written I have a domain name from name cheap. I had it up and operating all paid for, everything was fine. I ran Elementor. For some reason there were so many errors and their solutions required coding I was just not able to cope with. I decided to delete the site and start again. Elementor ppl told me I had to delete the site – but keep the domain name so I could build a new one. I did that but when i came back to wordpress it said I had no website. I got into it eventually and started to set up a new website with the name victormacgill.com and I was told I had to pay $120 NZ dollars for something that was fully paid up for two days ago. I do not know where to go from here

Elementor told me I had to delete the site at Name cheap, my host because they could not do it. They reconfirmed when I double checked that it had to be done from Name Cheap

  • Hey there,

Let’s take things step by step. :)

I decided to delete the site and start again. Elementor ppl told me I had to delete the site – but keep the domain name so I could build a new one.

What is the original domain name purchased with Namecheap.

It sounds like, when Elementor was in use – you’d be logging into something like: example.com/wp-admin.

I did that but when i came back to wordpress it said I had no website.

To confirm, were you logging into WordPress.com? If yes, this would be expected as the original domain, and http://victormacgill.com/ are not hosted with WordPress.com, but instead Name Cheap.

…for something that was fully paid up for two days ago. I do not know where to go from here

It sounds a domain and hosting was purchased with Name Cheap – is that correct? If yes, is that hosting with name cheap refundable?

    Going forward

We can help you build your site and steer you in the right direction – but first, let’s clear up the purchasing confusion above and the answers to the above should do this. :)

If you’re able to keep the domains in place, and refund the hosting package with Name Cheap, we can talk you through how to use the domains with WordPress.com, and we can guide you on how best to build the site.

Elementor is quite an extensive bit of kit when approaching this first time, and I get the sense we can provide something a bit simpler. What is your website going to be about exactly, and what features and things are you hoping to have or showcase?

I hope this helps, thus far.

The domain name is victormacgill.com/wp-admin. I have not previously had any problems with Namecheap and as much trouble as I am having with Elementor I am getting used to it and if I start with one of their templates rather than without one I am confident that I can make it work. I do not want to have to learn a whole new system again. I just want what I have to work. How do I set up the same situation that I had 2 dys ago wthout having to pay an extra $120?

Now when I load victormacgill.com/wp-admin it says website not found

  • Hey there,

Thanks for answering those questions there!

How do I set up the same situation that I had 2 dys ago wthout having to pay an extra $120?

You would need to check with Namecheap what was deleted….

It sounds like hosting and therefore the site was deleted upon that advice you received from Elementor. If that’s the case, you’d also need to check if that deletion was also refunded by Namecheap.

There’s a possibility, you could be starting again from the start from what I’m reading…

    I hope this helps.
