I have a mess….I think
-
I currently have 2 blogs–I want to delete one (which I know how to do) but the other I want to change the name, buy a domain using the new name, and have everything under the old name transfer. I have already created the new layout and am happy with it, but I don’t want to lose all of my old stuff by doing this incorrectly. Please help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi michelevenegas,
Can you send a link to the site you wish to keep? And which domain would you like to use going forward?
Just let me know and I’ll look at your options.
-
I want to keep everything at http://www.plukiesplace.wordpress.com, and change the name to http://www.mommyinflated.wordpress.com while keeping all of the material the same.
-
plukiesplace.wordpress.com and mommyinflated.wordpress.com are both active sites owned by your account. Renaming plukiesplace.wordpress.com to mommyinflated.wordpress.com won’t be possible because the address is already in use — but that content can be moved over to mommyinflated.wordpress.com.
Do you want to keep any of the existing content on mommyinflated.wordpress.com?
-
Well I had planned to delete the old mommyinflated, which I have done prior to this message. Now that the site has been deleted is it possible to rename plukiesplace?
-
mommyinflated.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.Deleting a site doesn’t release that address for you to register it again. It locks it out. If you still want to use that address please reply here asap and staff can recover it. After 30 days from deletion it will be unavailable for ever.
-
Then according to magic robot, I am asking for help to recover mommyinflated.wordpress.com
Can anyone help with this? -
Hi there, I have restored the mommyinflated.wordpress.com site to your account.
Do you want all the content from plukiesplace.wordpress.com removed before you export and then import the data to that site?
-
I want everything on plukiesplace to be transferred to mommyinflated. Then I plan to delete plukie and have just the one site. Is there a tutorial I can view on how to do this ?
-
@michelevenegas sure. You can export then import the data. Here’s how to create the export:
Then you’ll import that file to the other site (also under My Site > Settings) .
After that’s done, I recommend just making the old site private for a while, just in case you change your mind. You can always fully delete it later.
Also if you want to change your site name in the future, I recommend using the site rename tool. It works perfectly, so long as the new name does not yet exist.
-
I have both sites up. I exported/imported all of the plukie’s place to mommy inflated. If I now delete mommy inflated will all of the work still be up and running for plukie?
-
Hi –
Yes, you should be all set. I’m going to echo the advice that @supernovia shared though:

Use these instructions to set the plukie site to private:

Thanks to each of you for answering and helping me with the site questions. This should be my last one for awhile… Plukies Place is about to be changed to Mommy Inflated but will this mess up my links/categories on this site? All of my current work links back to Plukies Place. Hopefully I didn’t just confuse you all with the way I worded this question!

For any links automatically generated by WordPress (such as links to category pages), there is no need to update or change them, they were updated when you completed the import.
Now, if you manually added links within the posts/pages it’s possible those links will need to be updated. For example, if you linked to your about page from within a post.
