To determine why my domain has expired and what to do about it. I do not want to lose all my input.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ve tagged this for Staff assistance. Please be patient for their reply.
Meanwhile, please read this guideline which explains what happens when a domain expires: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/
As you mention that you did not receive any prior notification, please also check the email address in your domain dashboard to make sure it is current: https://en.support.wordpress.com/update-contact-information/

Hi there,
It’s impossible to help if you don’t tell us what the domain is.
Additionally, your account does not own any upgrades on WordPress.com, so if you have a domain with us which you bought with another username, I’ll need you to post here while logged in as that username before I can do anything to help.

@kokkieh- hope you are well. There is an expired domain overlay on the site mentioned by the OP @ birdsforbeer.com / birdsforbeer.wordpress.com
-
Thanks, @justjennifer :)
That domain is not registered with WordPress.com and isn’t expired. That domain is registered with GoDaddy.com and expires in May next year.
What has expired is the domain mapping upgrade connecting that domain to the WordPress.com site, but that upgrade does not belong to you. That upgrade belongs to the username, dearmariana, and only that username has the ability to renew it.

Many thanks for your quick help! My daughter Mariana set up this blog for me several years ago so I have forwarded your message to her in Italy. I hope she will soon reply. I myself do not have the skills to deal with this! Old age!

You can have your daughter transfer ownership of the site to your account, then you’ll be able to renew upgrades yourself, or she can log in and renew it from the Purchases page:
https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/
However, you can rest assured that all your content is safe. Even if the domain mapping is completely removed, your site will just go back to using the free address, and all your posts will still be there :)

Best thanks again. I am still waiting for my daughter to reply and will probably leave the decision up to her. I am much obliged for all your help.
Best wishes from Costa Rica
Paul
