I have a problem with adding a new tag
-
I usually add any tag, but today, I cannot add a new one. Is it a technical problem or some new limitation?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Me too! To add to what you already wrote:
When I am typing a tag, if I pause in my typing the text I have entered is cleared. I can successfully type a tag by not pausing between characters and immediately using comma to enter the tag. Normally, I could type a few letters and then pick something from the auto-complete list. But now that list does not appear and, as said, the text I typed is cleared if I pause.
To be extra clear, this is for the hosted version of wordpress.com. I am using Windows desktop, not the mobile app. I have tried with Chrome and Firefox. I flushed DNS. I used incognito mode so that no extensions would be at play.

Yes, I am having the exact same issue, beginning 15/11/24. I can add tags from the set below the box, but cannot add anything else. As I type the first letter, it disappears and I cannot type anything more. This is happening on Safari. I also downloaded another browser to test the problem, Firefox, and it also happened on there. I use an iPad.
my blog is thelibrainretired.com

Thanks for the reports. I can also confirm this issue on my test site. Any tag I add to the Tags section in the Block Editor sidebar simply disappears. (Win10Pro on Firefox latest)
While I’ve gone ahead and flagged this thread for Staff attention, please make sure to provide a link to the affected site and the browser you used. Thanks.

Just so everyone knows, a temporary workaround can be to save your work to drafts and then finish it in Jetpack. Tags are still working in Jetpack.
-
I thought I read somewhere that they pushed an update and that’s when I noticed I couldn’t add tags, either. I do not have JetPack so can’t do the work-around.

Just a reminder that these forums assist sites hosted by WordPress.com, the hosting provider. More info here: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/#are-wordpress-org-and-wordpress-com-the-same-thing and you can use the Site Profiler to check if you are not sure where you are hosted https://wordpress.com/site-profiler
As a workaround to adding existing or new Tags, you can head to your Posts WP Admin Classic Dashboard https://wordpress.com/support/edit-pages-screen/ and click “Quick Edit” that appears after you hover your cursor over the Post Title
Once the Quick Edit section opens, you can add and remove tags from the Tags section. Click “Update” after making any changes.
Hopefully we’ll get a quick fix for this. Thanks for your patience.

@justjennifer I can’t work how to access Quick Edit using my iPad. Can you help? Thanks.
-
JustJennifer’s workaround via the Admin Classic Dashboard worked for me. I can now add tags. Thanks. Hope a more permanent fix is coming soon.
-
@thelibrain you said you’re using a browser to access, correct? If so, make sure that the left dashboard sidebar appears when you’re in your dashboard. You might need to turn your iPad sideways (I had to on my Mini).
After clicking on the Posts dashboard link, at the top right of your screen you’ll see a tab that says “View” click on it so that you are in the Classic View. https://wordpress.com/support/dashboard/#switch-views-per-screen
If you touch the post title, you should see options appear just below it. It’s pretty sensitive and it’s easy to accidentally touch Trash, but you’ll see the Quick Edit appear there. Click it to add Tags in the Tag section.
Hope that helps until this is fixed.
