I have a problem with my stats

This is not really a technical question as such because I do not have a real problem but then, again, it is a problem. In the recent past, I’ve wondered about my stats though not in a way as to affect my writing.

I’ll take today as an example: when I last checked the stats, 2 people were shown to have viewed “Buhari’s …” but 5 people, of whom 2 have commented, have communicated with me about the essay in personal mails. My spouse called to discuss the contents of the preface to the old essay as being v. suitable. It’s been like that for a while and it makes me wonder if those on the mailing list do not get counted. Sometime. he would read the postings as we lounge, and would make suggestions on what needed to be corrected and I’d change things. An hour later, the particula essay would not show any click.

One of the five who have communicated with me today, for example, is one of my sisters who wrote: “oluronke45 2:04 PM (2 hours ago) to me: “Awe, how d? at last we are coming up. I love the article published on Buhari! I pray that we will make the right choice this time. Iam ok our arrangements going on well. Pls forward the article you published recently on how the United Emirates are using the Asian, Africans etc to develop Their country with cheap labour!”

Pls help check what’s going on. It IS a new blog and does require time to settle down but from above, NOT LESS THAN 5 people had actually READ the blog when my stats says 2; just would want to ensure I did not tamper with anything in the system that is affecting the counting.

    Thanks, Tola

    Hi Tola,

This can be a bit misleading, because there are ways to read your full posts without actually clicking onto your site. For example, you set it so that your readers can read the entire full text in the email post notification to your followers. You can see this by going to Settings > Reading in your Dashboard. Where it says: For each article in a feed, show, that was set to: Full Text.

So when a reader views everything via the email, while they may have read the entire post, he/she did not actually visit your site. So it wouldn’t be couldn’t in your stats.

Another place where a reader can read the entire post, but not exactly visit your site, is via the WordPress.com Reader.

Please note that visits are only when the reader clicks onto your site. If you want to change it so that your email notifications only show a summary of the post so that they have to click on to the site to see the entire post, you can go to Settings > Reading in your Dashboard and change “For each article in a feed, show” from Full Text to Summary.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Hi, Grace, and a million thanks for this.

I guess something had been wrong for a while but since I didn’t know how to go about asking without sounding like complaining, I did nothing till last wk; the guy on the beat did not get the entire message through before Ingot cut off.

By the way, I did nothing about the ‘feed’, or rather, did not know when I did.
I’ll go there right away and see if I understand what you’ve put here well.
THANKS, and the best of the holiday season to you. TOLA.

    Dear Grace,

Thanks v. much. I checked it out and corrected the error. You can see I meant and still mean it that I hardly know what I’m doing most of the times!

    My regards,
    TOLA.
