I have a quick question about pdf files
-
I’ve changed some of my word documents into pdf files so I can post them as an image on one of my pages. Well, my page won’t take the pdf files and I have no idea why.
I basically changed some documents over to pdf files so people can click on the image and the document will appear.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated :)

PDF’s will not display in your blog if that is what you are looking for because wordpress does not have a PDF interpreter built into it, but just like with word files you can have a link to them in a post, page or in a text widget in the sidebar. If people have Acrobat reader installed and linked with their browsers then it will open them in the browser window.
The only way you can display the stuff right in your pages or posts is to turn them into gif’s, png’s or jpg’s.

Thanks so much!!!
You’re always coming to my rescue :) I’ll learn this blog stuff sooner-or-later :)

You can take a screenshot of them, but typically that isn’t going to produce as clear image as saving as a gif or png.
If you had the full version of Acrobat (not reader) you could create the files using the “export” function. It’s way expensive though.

How do you turn a PDF into a gif, png, or jpg? I have the original in publisher. I think I’m going to go bang my head against the wall. Thank you.

@tsp – does the Vodpod widget only take videos now? It used to be able to handle pdf’s but I see no mention of that on the widget’s support entry here.
@greenweddingsandevents – you might have no choice but to do a screen cap. There’s a good plugin available for both Firebox and IE browsers called FireShot that’s simple to use and saves in .png by default. A Google search should bring it up for you.

WordPress, as I understand it, asked vodpod to limit what their button/service to only videos.

PDF Creator will convert word documents to pdf files, jpeg files and other formats. You access it from your word document like you would a printer. When you “print” with it, you are actually saving it into a different format. You can choose on the save screen, pdf, which is the default, or you can choose several other formats.

This might be of some help to you. -
I had the same problem. Image or document in pdf format could not be uploaded. So I found out an easy way. Just went to http://issuu.com
Uploaded my image/document there. Within seconds issuu gave me the html code and simply I pasted in my blog widget. Anybody clicks the link box ‘Open Publication’ now in my blog, would immediately find the image in full. http://vimokshananda.wordpress.com/2008/01/31/celebrations-in-south-africa/ -

I see lot of threads where you do give wonderful solutions/useful hints to many bloggers. I would like to see your blog. How can I? -
@vimokshananda: Thank you for your kind words, but my blog isn’t so special. And it’s in Greek: I wouldn’t like my texts to be disfigured by auto-translators. Plus there was someone here who recently went nuts against me, and even opened a thread about me (!) demanding that I link my blog to my name: I’ve no idea what he was up to, but this has made me even more reluctant to give the link. Sorry.

Linking a blog URL to a username is helpful to the volunteers for those asking questions here, but it is by no means any sort of law (or wordpress would do it automatically. It is now and always should be the users choice.

When it comes to “wonderful solutions/useful hints” as you say, I’d like to give you a couple of big thumbs up. I dig the http://issuu.com site. It would be nice if it incorporated into wordpress better — in a way where it could be seen as the document and then clicked on in order to zoom in. Anyway, it is a nice site — I’ve already used it, wonderful idea on your part.
Regards.
