I have a real mess at WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

Over the course of the past several years, I’ve been required by a few different websites, to use wordpress(dot)com as a “middle man” so to speak, for logging in to them. This has now turned into a nasty burden, as at least 2 of the login email / usernames / passwords no longer work at all. This is solely my fault, and I need to rectify the situation.

I want(NEED) to delete ALL of them, and create ONE email / username / password account for everything, if that is possible.

I have a new email address that is not utilized in any of my “accounts” here @ wordpress, and if possible, would like to use only that one exclusively.

I’m not 100% certain if that is possible, since different sites ( that use wordpress) require different login information. Apparently, I don’t quite understand the exact inner workings of wordpress, but I want to “start fresh” as it were. Thanks for any help.

Hi, did you try to click “Lost your password?” link and recover your password for those two blogs?

Here are some helpful support articles about recovery:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

And yes, you can move all your blogs to one WordPress.com account. This support article will help you to do that:

    Hello there,

Please, let an uninvited user ask you about these reset passwords procedures.
I kept logged in working on some customizations, and as a magic it logged off. Ok, tried to login 3x, nothing…waited 20min, asked for a password reset, went to my mail, confirmed it, made another password, went back to wp-login page and … damn…again blocked.

It simply does not want to accept my login data, even checking and rechecking they are flawlessly right !

Whats happening? I cannot login into my WP-admin area anymore.

    Thanks for any help, mate!

First, please make sure that your website is hosted on WordPress.com. If it’s not – then you should look for help at WordPress.org forums or contact your hosting support.

Thanks for the reply, Romanbon. I’m sorry to have taken so long to get back to you.

Let me TRY to explain this a little further, because I don’t think you realize the problem(s) I have with wordpress.

I’m afraid the reason that ONE of those accounts no longer work is probably due to my getting “kicked off” a website, simply because I used the word “pecker”. The e-mail address I had / have associated with that site won’t work @ the wordpress login screen anymore, because of that…I think. So, recovering a password for that e-mail address would likely be futile ( and pointless ). I no longer want that particular e-mail address associated with wordpress anyway, in any way, shape, or form, and am in the process of trying to eliminate it completely, but it is a gmail address, and eliminating THOSE are nearly impossible! This e-mail and password were to log in to a .com website. I don’t think it is a blog, per se, but I’m not certain. In a nutshell, I do not want wordpress to ever remember that e-mail address again. Since wordpress login doesn’t recognize the e-mail to allow it to log me in, then I’m guessing they have “dumped it”, so to speak.

The second login e-mail address is one that I almost NEVER use. I have a password keeper program, just in case I can’t remember a particular one. THIS e-mail’s password is stored there, but when I type it into the wordpress login screen, it isn’t recognized. Since my password keeper has it saved, the password can’t be wrong.

I guess I could click the “lost password?” link in this case, create a new one, and then the e-mail address would be useable again. However, I have just created a new e-mail account that I want to use as a login here at the wordpress login. I would assume that I would start anew, from the beginning, as if I had never used wordpress before, to create and verify this new e-mail / password. ???

Afterwards, I could “merge” the two, as you described in your reply, correct? Please bear with me. There is more.

There are a total of four accounts in this mess. Hence, the title to my query. Two of them are already registered here. However, the first one mentioned; the gmail address, I am hoping wordpress has dumped from their database, or a reasonable facsimile thereof. I am counting this one as a third login, even though it has virtually disappeared. These 3 are: (1) the gmail, (2) the one that I rarely use, but can most likely recover by clicking “forgot your password”?, and (3) the brand new one that hasn’t been registered here yet.

Actually, the fourth is also registered here @ wordpress, but the login I have for it is a username, and the e-mail address associated with this account no longer exists. I need this account removed also, simply because THAT USERNAME has begun to cause me problems across the web, getting more frequent day by day. Even though the e-mail associated with this username no longer exists, the account requires the username at the login screen.

I’m so very sorry to throw all of this at you at once. My most sincere apologies. I am very much, “step on a crack…”, “…knock on wood…”, “fingers crossed” hoping that you will be able to make some sense of this all. Yep, it’s a really big mess, but somehow, I NEED to clean it all up.

Thanks very much for listening, your reply, and any help that you might be able to offer.

I am uncertain as to any url’s associated with the four different logins. I guess I don’t quite understand. There are only four combinations of e-mails / usernames / passwords, 3 of which have been used to login to wordpress at one time or another. Different websites that I have been to in the past will say, at one place or another on the home page of that site, “powered by wordpress.com”, or “login with wordpress”. When one clicks the login for that site, they are redirected to the wordpress.com login screen. After typing in your e-mail / username and password, you are again taken back to the website that you are logging in for.

Is there a unique url that corresponds to each of these logins? Please enlighten me, as I am no PC nerd by any stretch.

Thank you so much for the reply. I am grateful to everyone here, and appreciate the politeness. I hope that I am reciprocating in kind.

    Hi there,

If you let me know the websites you try to log into, or tell me the usernames and/or email addresses you use to log in, I can check those details here to make sure they are WordPress.com accounts. (You can put email addresses in your reply here and they will be hidden from everyone but staff.)

However, if you’re having trouble logging in to WordPress.com accounts, you’ll need to follow the steps in our Account Recovery guide for more assistance with that. If you fill out the recovery form mentioned there, our team can get in touch with you privately to discuss your options for regaining access to (and making changes to) those other accounts.

First of all, you have to figure out which site is connected to which account. To do that, you should log in to each account and check “My Sites” section.

If you did not receive any warning e-mails then, most likely, your accounts and/or e-mails are not blocked, so you can at least try to recover them by clicking “Lost your password?” link.

In filling out the account recovery form, there is no one particular URL associated with the account(s). I used wordpress, only because the site that I happened to be on, creating an account FOR that site, had either “powered by wordpress”, or “create a wordpress account”on their home pages. As time passed, and I would happen upon another site that utilized a wordpress login, I had only to use the wordpress account I had already created.

So, I have no one specific URL to enter on the account recovery form; only a username and password. This particular login combination is the only one left that will allow me to log in to wordpress.com. The e-mail address associated with this specific account, no longer exists.
The form won’t submit because I am leaving the URL box blank. It says I can enter a username, or e-mail address, or URL. I’m entering the username, because the e-mail associated with it doesn’t exist anymore.

I no longer have the activation URL that was associated with my account(s). I can, however, provide an e-mail address and password that I used at one time, to log in at wordpress.com, that will no longer work. but may still be in your database.

In actuality, including the e-mail / password mentioned above, I have three accounts here at wordpress.com/login, but I can only get ONE of them to work.

They are / were: (1) (email visible only to moderators and staff); password was: [redacted] (no longer works)

    (2) (email visible only to moderators and staff); password was / is: [redacted]
(also no longer works; won’t accept password)

    (3) This one is the most recent, the only one I can get to work at this time, and is a “username / password” combination. The e-mail address associated with this account was (email visible only to moderators and staff), which no longer exists. The username is: ar12umustdie, and the password is: [redacted] This one allows me to login to wordpress, but the account recovery form will not submit.

I realize how confusing and frustrating this must be for any of you. It is worse for me. I sincerely hope that someone there can make some sense of this all. I am really grateful for everyone’s efforts.

If any other information is required, AND I HAVE IT, I will gladly provide it.

My ultimate goal here is to create a new, unique account, with a new e-mail address / username / password. I would also want to retain the @yahoo.com account, if I am able to get a password to work, ( as stated earlier, the present one doesn’t work ). I want the @gmail.com account, and the ar12umustdie account purged, i.e., disassociated with me, and removed from wordpress.com, IF that is possible.

    Hi there,

Please don’t share your passwords on the public support forums here, for your own security. WordPress.com staff won’t ever ask you for your passwords and I’ve redacted them from your previous post.

You mentioned you can log in to ar12umustdie but you no longer want it. WordPress.com accounts can’t be entirely deleted, but you can follow the steps on our Deleting Accounts page to remove your personal information from the account.

You also mentioned you want to retain the Yahoo.com account. Can you please try resetting the password by logging out of WordPress.com going to the password reset page here:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

There, you can enter that email address to reset its password. You’ll receive a password reset link at the email address (please check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see the email in your inbox).

If you also want to create a new, unique account with a completely different username and password, you can do that by logging out of WordPress.com and visiting the signup page here:

    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/

    Hello rachelmcr,

Sorry about the passwords. I assumed, and you know what happens next.

Thank you very much. You are right on the money with this reply, for it mirrors my thoughts of my dilemma here. Ordinarily, my problem would appear solved, but please recall the fourth account in one of my previous posts; the tyarbro (email visible only to moderators and staff). Would again referring to the Account Recovery guide, fix this mistake as well?

I’ll enter it, but enter my saved password, and it doesn’t work. I merely need to eliminate this e-mail address. Can you and your team do this?

    Thank you much

  • Unknown's avatar

Profuse apologies once again. The @yahoo.com e-mail address isn’t a wordpress account.

Also, a mea culpa because earlier in this thread, I mentioned four accounts here at wordpress. Later, I had said there were only three.

I think it is evident now, whose fault it is for the thread being here in the first place.

Among the four was the (email visible only to moderators and staff) account. Another that I want to delete; to the best of the wordpress’ abilities. I have to say that I am not 100%, perhaps 99.99% that it was / is a wordpress account.

  • Unknown's avatar

For that fourth email address, if it’s linked to a WordPress.com account you’ll be able to reset the password here:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

If you have any doubts about that, please send us an email at help@wordpress.com from that email address and we’ll be able to discuss any account-specific details privately.
