I have a Site but can’t transfer it

Hi there! I signed up for a domain name through Bluehost and then tried to transfer that to WordPress. I am very confused. How do I do that? It is telling me I can’t transfer it for 50+ days unless I want to pay a fee. Can you explain this to me? Thank you!

If you are wanting to use the domain name with your WordPress.com hosted account, you don’t have to transfer the domain away from Bluehost. If you are on a paid plan on WordPress, you can map an existing domain without transferring it.

    This article may help.

Use a domain you already own

  • Hi there,

With any new domain registered at any provider it’s not possible to transfer the domain unless you’ve owned it for 60 days or more. I also find it very unlikely that Bluehost would offer to do this for you at a fee, as doing so would be in direct violation of ICANN rules that Bluehost is subject to, just like every other domain provider on the web.

You can use the domain with a WordPress.com site immediately by using our domain mapping upgrade as explained above, but it will not be possible to transfer the domain to us until you’ve owned it for at least 60 days.
