I have a solution to a feed problem but no place to put it.

I am a member of Triberr.com. Up until recently, Triberr was able to pick up my rss feed and post my most recent post there to be shared. It has stopped working and Triberr said to install their plug-in but I’m unable to do that. I have a blog token but nowhere to put it under settings. Can you help me resolve this problem? I need my feed to connect to Triberr.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Does anyone have any suggestions? A whole day has gone by and my post hasn’t been shared by anyone but me and a few people who follow me on Twitter. Not happy.

  • Hi,

Sorry for the delay—we answer questions based on how old the last response, so your message got pushed back to the bottom with your response.

Can you send over the instructions that Triberr sent over? I was unable to find support documentation on their site that covered this.

We don’t allow plugins on WordPress.com for security concerns. Did they stop accepting RSS feeds completely?

    Thanks!

Oh, okay, won’t do that again. ;-)

I can’t tell if they’ve stopped accepting RSS feeds completely or not. The suggestion of the plug-in has been there for a while but the feed always worked so I didn’t bother with it. I’ve only been with WordPress since September.

The installation instructions are as follows:
Triberr This is an all-in-one plugin for members of Triberr.com. This is meant to seamlessly integrate your blog with Triberr so that it can send and receive posts, comments and guest posts. Plug-in Version 3.0.1

    1. Upload the contents of triberr.zip to your plugins directory.
    2. Activate the plugin
    3. There will be a “Triberr” option in your WordPress Settings menu.
    4. Login to Triberr.com and go to your Account Settings -> Blog Settings page (http://triberr.com/settings/?pg=rss). Click on “Show API Token”. Copy the 35 digit string of characters and numbers.
    5. Paste the API Token you copied from your Triberr Blog Settings page and paste it in the plugins page within WordPress admin. Save.
    6. That’s all. When you publish or update a post, it will automatically be sent to Triberr. You can pause or delete any unwanted posts by logging into Triberr and going to your Sent Stream.

They gave me an API Token but I can’t use it. I hope you can help me. My site is not self-hosted and everything I’ve searched says if I’m not self-hosted, I’m out of luck.

If it helps, the link to there plug-in page at WordPress.org is:
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/triberr-wordpress-plugin/

Hope you can help me figure this out. Thanks so much!!

I just looked through some of my Tribemates blogs and a couple are WordPress blogs but they must be upgraded because they have copyright blocks at the bottom. Is the fact that mine isn’t upgraded a reason why I’m in trouble with the feed? Do the upgraded themes have access to adding plug-ins? *sigh*

  • We don’t have a copyright block as part of your feed (some WordPress.org-based sites have plugins that adds something like “this post was originally published at….” which may be what they’re referring to).

I am curious on what reason they’re rejecting your particular feed, in case there is something we can do about it or if they’re “retiring” that method.

Plugins aren’t allowed on WordPress.com currently, regardless of upgrade. If we can’t figure out the feed issue and Triber is a must-have, you may have to migrate to a WordPress.org-based site.

More details can be read at WordPress.com and WordPress.org, but basically, WordPress.com is this site where we host your site for you, provide support, take care of all of the technical issues, so you don’t have to worry with any of that stuff. In exchange, though, we have some restrictions to keep everything working for everyone—no plugins and only themes from http://themes.wordpress.com being two of them.

WordPress.org, on the other hand, has no restrictions with what you can do with the software. It’s free software that you install at the host of your choice. Many have a one-click install process for it (four of those are listed at http://get.wp.com/hosting ). Some support may be available through your host and support forums at located at http://wordpress.org/support/ . You’re responsible for keeping the site’s software updated and for resolving (or finding someone) to resolve things if they break.

Please let me know if you have any questions and if there’s anything more we can look at regarding why they’re not accepting the feed any longer.

    Thanks!

Got it. I’m not tech savvy enough to host my own site. I came to you, as well as Triberr, trying to get an answer because I thought maybe someone else was having a problem as well.
I’m not worried about the copyright thing – I discovered when I was trying to find where I could put a ‘rights reserved’ on my site that only the premium upgrade themes had a copyright block. I added my own on the sidebar. ;-)
I appreciate all your hard work and I’m going to go back to Triberr and see if I can get some kind of resolution there. My feed is working and valid but for some reason they aren’t picking up the latest post.
Sometimes it’s best not to fix what ain’t broke but they do anyway.
Thanks again for your help and I appreciate the fast response.
    Have a good one!! :-)

  • You too. If they provide any responses that you want a second opinion on or help making sense of it, feel free to reply to this thread.

    Cheers!

I hollered out to Triberr again, this time in the forum and bingo, not only did I get an answer, they fixed it. Seems they tweaked the stream and all that was needed was an adjustment in my feed address. All fixed and I’m a happy camper again. Thanks for your help though. I was going a little crazy not knowing where the problem was, at my end or theirs.

    Thanks again!

  • Awesome! Very glad to hear it and glad that they were able to resolve it so quickly.

Please let me know if there’s anything else we can do for you. Happy blogging!
