I have already uploaded images can I optimize them?
-
I have had my blog for 6 months and have run out of space already. I now see that I should have optimized the images first. Can I do this with images already on the site or do I have to delete them, optimize them, reload them and then put them back into the posts again?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s not really possible to optimize images that you have already uploaded. That will create duplicate images in your Media Library as WPcom keeps the original in case you want to revert. You really have only two choices here:
1. Replacing each image with an already optimized image: You can do this by opening each post to edit it and clicking on each individual image. You’ll see a pencil icon appear which will bring you to another window where you’ll see a “replace” button under the image. https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-settings/#within-posts That will let you select a different, already optimized image to upload or select from your Media Library.
2. You can also do as you suggested, by deleting each image from your post and uploading and inserting an optimized image.
Note: deleting or replacing an image from within your post does not delete the original image from your Media Library. You will still need to permanently delete the originals so be wise in naming your replacement image so you don’t accidentally delete it instead of the original. Permanently deleting an image from the Media Library also deletes it from the post.
Also, with the theme you are using (Edin), you’ll want to see the image size specs at the bottom of the page here: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/edin/
