I have an issue with accessing our website from our school internally.

I have an issue with accessing our website from our internal domain. We can access the site with no issues externally from the school but at school our domain controller and active directory has the name lasalle.nsw.edu.au and has been like this since 2001. I have had 4 different web hosts over this time and have never had an issue accessing our site from internal or external sources. Since we moved over to wordpress we can no longer access http://www.lasalle.nsw.edu.au which is what we used to connect to our site with. Now when we type this into our browser it changes to lasalle.nsw.edu.au and drops the www with is giving us the following error (HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found) and makes it hard to do any changes or access our site from school. Is there any way we can do this to access it from school or do I have to go to another webhost.

WordPress.com automatically removes the “www” from you web address. Your domain, http://www.lasalle.nsw.edu.au, will always be redirected to lasalle.nsw.edu.au, so you can feel free to use either version on your business cards or elsewhere.
Redirecting the first version of your URL to the second version helps to ensure that search engines index your site properly. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to switch them. All domains through WordPress.com redirect to the lasalle.nsw.edu.au version.
This domain is currently working for me. Are you still having trouble accessing this site:

Hi Shawna
Thank you for the reply. Yes we are still not able to access the site internally at school. We either get a 404 error or if trying in IE we get the IIS7 page. In safari and chrome we are getting “too many rediercts” error. There is no issue externally but not being able to access it intertnally makes it very hard to do any work on the site and as we have links and portals running through the site none are able to access it in class or anywhere on site. My active directory is also lasalle.nsw.edu.au but we have never had an issue accessing it from school with our other web hosts, it just seems to be the change over to wordpress. Is there a way that the http://www.lasalle.nsw.edu.au is the only way it can be accessed or is this not an option in wordpress.

With my background in networks and Windows servers, I can say with great assurance that your issue is definitely caused by your Active Directory domain. As a general rule giving Active Directory domains the same name in an out, can make things tricky. There are ways to fix this internally that go beyond the scope of this forum. If the staff can allow your site to load at http://www.lasalle.nsw.edu.au/ it would also solve your issue. I know @shawnajroberts will definitely give you the best support option for this situation.

Hey there! There’s no way to force your site to use the www prefix here on WordPress.com. Your best bet is to follow @ariwinokur’s advice and contact your IT team. They should be able to modify the network settings to allow you access to the site without the www prefix.
