i have been invited to a private blog but can not log on.

  when i type in my user name (iandkwilson) and my password i just get a message that says that the scctourblog.org is marked private.

  It’s actually a two-step process.

  You were invited to create a WordPress.com account. Now that you have one, the owner of the private blog will need to add your username to the list of approved viewers.
