I have deleted my blog but can still log in and email is tied up

I have just deleted a blog, so that I can free up my email address to register a blog with a different name. However, I wasn’t able to do so becasue it seems that WordPress.com still thinks that I am the owner of the deleted site and the email address is still “in used”.
How can I correct this?
I wish I can email support! -
The email is tied to the account, not the individual blog. You can register as many blogs as you like on a single username account. Is there a reason you do not want to attach the new blog to the old username account?
