  I have multiple sites I am having freelancers work on. Eventually I want to be able to edit those sites and control how they look and everything that comes along with that. How can I set up wordpress so I can manage those? I downloaded wordpress but how do I know if that’s what I need to do? Also, how do I finish the download?

  Actually if you’ve got the sites already set up, you likely don’t need to download anything.

  It sounds like these sites may be self-managed installations of WordPress.org, set up through other hosts. Can you confirm with your freelancers whether that is correct? We can also check if you’ll send us links.

  If they are all self-hosted, and if your freelancers will grant you access, you’d be welcome to use Jetpack so you can manage the sites in one place:
