I have my wordpress database from my original selfprovided site, but cannot access the site anymore.

Is there a way to upload manually the databade to wordpress.com, so it preserve the posts, photoes and dates?

If this question was already answered, please direct me to the correct answer.

    Thank for your help.

    Hi there,

We don’t provide manually importing anything. Our current site will need to be on a service that provides a WordPress export of your content, or for which we have an importer available:

    Import a Website

If you also have a domain that you want to transfer to us, that will require our Personal Plan or higher. You can see the cost of all our plans here:

    Hope this helps!! :)

    Hi,
I cannot access the current site, therefore I was asking if it is possible to manually move the mySQL database. I can still access the database. I am unable to export anything from within WordPress, because it stopped working completelly.

  • At this time, we can only import for a WordPress export file.

In this case, I recommend restoring your site on the same hosting provider, and exporting from there.

Or, if your site is still there and just not working, reach our to WordPress.org support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ so they can help you get it working again.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi there, hope you don’t mind me adding to this discussion.

staff-blorbo would it be possible to set up a temporary WordPress install (jurassic.ninja or poopy.life -NAYY), import the database and then export the WP xml file which the user can then import here? That might only cover the text-based content, but I’m not certain it will bring over media attachments.

  • @justjennifer, not in this case, no.

To directly upload the database you’ll need access to PHPMyAdmin, and to directly upload files you’d need FTP access. Those services are handy for spinning up a self-hosted installation for temporary use, but they just give you access to the regular site dashboard and don’t include those tools.

Unless there’s a plugin out there that allows you to import a database directly from the dashboard, but I’ve never come across anything like that.

What could work is to spin up a local installation of WordPress instead – that would include PHPMyAdmin which would allow you to upload an existing database, and then export it. That would not allow media files to be imported, though.

So working with the original host of the site to get the site back online long enough to complete an export/import is really the best option here.
