I have questions about the Guided Transfer

I am considering transferring from .com to org. I read the support info but still have questions. My theme is not supported in .org so I am not clear what will happen when my blog is transferred. I will purchase a new theme but my content will likely need to be formatted and adjusted. I am considering Beverly them from BluChic http://www.bluchic.com/themes/beverly-theme
Can you tell me a bit more specifically what happens when you transfer a blog from .com to .org and one theme to another.

Guided transfer is more or less just a service to get your new site set up and your data transferred. It is not a service that will customize design or theme options for you. There are, however, many WordPress professionals would be happy to have you hire them to work on that sort of project.

Hi there. Thanks for the response. Here is what I don’t get in it’s essence… if you transfer my blog from .com to .org and my theme isn’t supported where it lands… what will it look like when it arrives at .org… Will it be just a collection of text? will it maintain any of it’s structure. I apologize if this seems obtuse, but I just want to understand it conceptually before I move forward with anything. Thanks!

What it looks like will depend on what themes you install. I think new installs come with Twenty Ten, but it might be some other theme. It’s up to you to find one you like, ensure it’s safe, buy or just download it, and then install it.

Got it. So theoretically would I set up my .org account and install the theme before the guided transfer happens… and then the information would be transferred to the new theme?

Great. I just needed to get a conceptual understanding of what actually happened. So if I wanted to move forward to transfer my account from .com to .org and use the guided transfer, my first steps would be to get my url and hosting set up, purchase and install my theme and then purchase the guided transfer. Is this correct?

Sort of – the Guided Transfer only goes to certain hosts, so you need to get the hosting at the proper host – I think what they do if the theme is not supported is set one up that is the closest they have that is standard –

You will need one of these hosts for a Guided Transfer:
You will also need a domain (custom URL) that we can use with the new site. All three of those hosts can sell you one along with the hosting package when you make your purchase.
Other than that, nothing else really needs to be done beforehand. We will transfer your site as closely as-is. It looks like you are currently using Bueno as your theme. We can transfer that no problem.
After we’re done, you are totally free to upload any theme you like and switch to a new theme.

Hi Hewsut, thanks so much for your response. When I searched a while back I didn’t find Bueno for .org so I assumed it could not be transferred… but it can be used on .org as well? That would be great.
