I have two websites with the same name
-
Hi,
I am not sure I will have time to do much with this website: https://sonjabolon.wordpress.com
But I have another one as well. A friend of mine will help me build my business on it. Here is the other website. https://sonjabolon.com/wp hosted by Hostgator.
Will there be a problem with both of them having my name as the website? If it is a problem, I can change the
https://sonjabolon.wordpress.com
website to another name. I’m just not sure how to do that. Or if they can be combined that would be another option. I’m already paying for hosting with Hostgator but I am using WordPress for both sites. Thank you! Sonja BolonWP.com: Yes

Hey!
Your sites are hosted on two different versions of WordPress.
https://sonjabolon.wordpress.com – is hosted on wordpress.com
https://sonjabolon.com/wp – is hosted on wordpress.org
For information on the difference between the two:
https://wordpress.com/go/business-website-guidance/wordpress-com-vs-wordpress-org/This is the forum that offers support for wordpress.com, although if you would like assistance with your site which is on wordpress.org (https://sonjabolon.com/wp) you can find that here:
https://wordpress.org/support/To answer your question, it seems like you have two different versions of the same website. There won’t be a problem since they have different domains. Just know that if you update the content on one, it won’t update the other. If you ever are looking to change the domain of your site that is hosted on wordpress.com (https://sonjabolon.wordpress.com) you can do that here:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/register-domain/In the future, I would recommend combining the sites! As you could have everything under just one domain. It would be possible to transfer your custom domain on Hostgator to WordPress if you would like as well:

Just to add, WordPress.org is not a hosting provider. WordPress.org is the site where the WordPress open source software is developed and maintained and where it can be downloaded for use on 3rd party hosting, like Hostgator. That is also the place to find documentation and get support for WordPress installs.
WordPress.com, where we are, uses a highly customized version of that same WordPress open source software.
As far as your question, it’s possible you registered for a WordPress.com account in order to use features of the Jetpack plugin, which is also owned and maintained by the same organization that runs WordPress.com. That action may have additionally created a new site for you.
However, if your WordPress site will be built by your friend and hosted by Hostgator, you do not need to keep an additional site here on WordPress.com. You can choose to delete the WordPress.com site or make it Private so that it won’t interfere with your other site’s search engine rank. More on that here:
https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/
https://wordpress.com/support/delete-site/Having said that, as @magnusholmes mentioned, you could also build your site here on WordPress.com and use your already registered custom domain. :)
Let us know if you have any other questions about this.
