I have URL errors from my old WordPress.com blog. How do I update the URLs?
-
I started a blog at althingsbeverage.wordpress.com, and have since moved to a self-hosted wordpress.org blog (allthingsbeverage.com). Using Google Webmaster Tools I found crawl errors because the URLs from my old blog now have dates in them. How do I update the old URLs so that correctly direct traffic to my new site? Here is an example:
http://allthingsbeverage.com/scotch-whisky-pronunciation-guide-with-brian-cox/ is a URL on my self-hosted blog. When I log into WordPress.com (not my WordPress.org admin) I notice the link to that same page is http://allthingsbeverage.com/2013/02/18/scotch-whisky-pronunciation-guide-with-brian-cox/, with a date added in. How do I get that broken, second link to change or be directed to the correct location?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy,
That permalink structure with the dates is the original set of addresses when you had your site on WordPress.com.
Two options:
- 1. Change the permalink structure on your .org site to match (Settings->Permalinks in your .org dashboard), but that would break any links you’ve sent out without that structure.
- Setup redirection on your .org site to redirect the older addresses to their new homes. With the way domain forwarding works, all we can do on our end is make sure anyone visiting http://allthingsbeverage.wordpress.com are directed to http://allthingsbeverage.com.
Regarding the second suggestion, you have a couple of options. The best in terms of site performance is to modify your .htaccess file to handle the redirections for you or you could also use a plugin called Redirection.
Since this is somewhat outside of the scope for WordPress.com support, I can’t provide much more direction through this forum. Could you make a post at http://wordpress.org/support/ asking for assistance and post a link here too?
Thanks!
