I imported another site that overwrote existing content!
-
In the past hour I lost all my existing WordPress content – 5 posts in all. I imported a Xanga site which I had access to, and then all my previous 5 posts were missing. However according to this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/will-import-over-write-existing-posts?replies=6 they should not be overwritten. Could WP.com staff please help restore my original content? Sadly it was too late to back up my files. I hope your servers could still locate the old files and their revisions. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Follow-up: It turns out that instead of 5 posts, 2 posts were gone from the blog. Please undelete them:

When I change the action “edit” to “preview”, I get the error message:
“Are you sure you want to do this?” for both posts with id=4 and 5. I remember those posts were published in February 2015. -
I’m sorry but Volunteers are unable to help you resolve this, so I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

I’m not seeing any evidence of deleted posts. Is it possible the missing posts are in one of your other sites?
-
Of course there’s no evidence left; the Xanga import overwrote them!
[frustrated] If someone had helped within the hour I started this thread on May 1, those posts may have been easily recoverable. The import was horrible; I couldn’t even find those two posts in the Trash.

I can’t remember the exact links; the two missing posts have the preview links [url removed by staff] and[url removed by staff] and I wonder where they used to link to. I hope to have them restored and not give me the messages “Are you sure you want to do this?” (Yes, I am sure I want to look at posts id=4 and 5 again) or “You attempted to edit an item that doesn’t exist. Perhaps it was deleted?” again. -
Since I was participating in an international popular science competition, I recorded on the blog some popular science information, such as circles, fairy rings and so on.
-
The way the importer works makes it very unlikely that the posts were overwritten. The only way that could even maybe happen is if the title for one of the imported posts was identical to the existing post. Even then the old post would stay and the new post wouldn’t be imported.
Is it possible those posts had been put in the trash at one point? Posts in the trash are permanently deleted after 30 days after being added to the folder.
Do you remember the title of either missing post? If it’s floating around somewhere that will help me find it.
-
I’ll try my best, three possibilities:
One post is likely about “FameLab” (or capitalization variants thereof e..g Famelab), and perhaps “note”/”notes”. Like, “FameLab notes” / “Notes for FameLab “, “for FameLab” etc. (I may use FL to stand for FameLab)
Another may be “links” / “resources” on (e.g. “speech links”) and it lists my search results on “public speaking”, just like the other non-empty post you see on my blog.
Sometimes my titles are arresting, perhaps (“< 2 Feb”). There is also a possibility of an actual speech being one of the posts (“Writer’s Union”?)… -
-
It sounds like you don’t really remember what was in the posts. Did you see the actual posts on the site before the import?
-
-
Thanks for the extra info. Since you didn’t see the posts before the import, and all of my searching through your logs shows no evidence of those posts being deleted, I’m not going to be able to help you. If the posts were on this site, and not one of your other sites, they must have been moved to the trash and then auto deleted well before you started the import.
-
I’m sorry, I think there is a misunderstanding. What I mean by not seeing the posts is that I forgot to look at the blog one last time before the import.
-
I have a strong aversion to deleting posts. At most I only revert them to drafts for reprocessing.
-
Here’s one of the posts
[url removed by staff]It’s on one of your other sites with a similar URL. I suspect your other missing post is there as well.

Here’s a list of all of your sites
If you are looking for a post, and you aren’t sure which of your sites you posted it to, you can see all your posts on all your sites from here

Hope that helps clear things up.
