I just signed up for premium and my domain name is wrong

    How can I change untiltheyregondotcom.wordpress

    to

    untiltheyregone.com

    ?

Also, how do I “contact support”? I can’t find a link anywhere on the site?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Looked and looked but can find no documentation on this problem.

I signed up for premium which I thought included getting a plain domain name sans .wordpress.com. Seems like there’s no way to do that. I paid to upgrade and paid to map my domain name and

    untiltheyregone.com gets converted to:
    untiltheyregonedotcom.wordpress.com

Unbelievable. I’ve heard so many good things about this site. I’ve spent the last 2-3 days to learn it. I finally pull the trigger and upgrade and voila: very strainge domain name and no support….

    Canceling order and moving on….

Also, wondering why there isn’t support for the premium packages? I completely understand not offering support other than the forums and docs for the free sites– I mean it’s free. But other sites offer support at the $8 a month plans.

It’s just so weird to sign up, make a payment, map a domain name and end up with what I ended up with.

Perhaps you failed to understand that one must register an underlying .wordpress.COM address first in order to map from it to a domain URL. When that happens the software provides the dotcom.wordpress.com so your can proceed with domain mapping.

    re: mapping an existing domain
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible.

Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made, it and the domain mapping purchase here, each and every year.

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium upgrade bundle.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Thank you. I failed to understand (though I understand the fees, paid the fees etc..)

Has wordpress.com considered usability testing? The “map it” feature/option should, at the very least, offer more tips and a link to “next steps to finish your mappping” or something along those lines.

Your next step is to map your existing domain name to your blog, as you can do here:
    https://untiltheyregonedotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

Once you do so, your blog’s address will effectively be untiltheyregone.com (or whatever domain name you own, and choose to map.)

As for support, you can always try the forums, or if you’re using a paid option, live chat or email support at https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    @chrisrudzki
Has the support doc been updated to make it clear that registering and underlying .wordpress.com URL is required to be able to map to from it to the domain URL? I’m asking because several bloggers have had the same problem ie. they lacked that knowledge.

Thanks but IMO that’s not the kind of clarity that bloggers need. The language is obscure and many people cannot even fathom a complex sentence that 7 graders used to be able to comprehend. I think a simple statement like registering and underlying .wordpress.com URL is required to be able to map from to a domain URL would be better.

Wow, thanks for the dialogue on this. Sorry for ranting right off the bat… I’m sorta used to lack of support all over the web. I think the page I’d want is:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-subdomain/

It’d be great if at the time of checkout when a user clicks the “map it” that the above page is offered—email at end or redirect or link etc.. Essentially something that indicates that more is needed than just hitting the map it button. That was where I went wrong. I thought I’d be given a set of instructions after hitting that button. Since I did not receive directions I assumed it took care of it for me.

Looking into this on my own, seems it’s not a big deal. One just needs to send a request to hosting company asking them to redirect (ie change the DNS records—or you can do it yourself if you’re feeling adventurous).

Anyway, that’s my input. Press the map it button and get the above link so user/blogger knows something more is required.
