I just updated my domain – should I tell google??
-
Hi,
I just updated my domain from tipsinarabic.wordpress.com to tipsinarabic.com. Good sign that’s it’s doing well!
BUT my google webmater account is tipsinarabic.wordpress.com
I posted a new article and tried to submit to google crawl it told me “Redirected”.
Before I do anything incredibly stupid, should I “Verify” the new domain with google using a new meta code?
– and delete the old tipsinarabic.wordpress.com domain from my google webmaster account?
– will I have to ask it re-crawl all my previous posts individually as I have been doing every time I post?
– will my visitor number be reduced? (I expect it will temporarily)
Any guidance or pointers in the right direction appreciated.
Thanks y’all!

@TT will probably have a bit more – but here is part of an answer
Leave the old address at Google Webmaster tools
As soon as you make a new Post – search engines will be told of the new address.
All the old addresses still work but there is a redirect (moved permanent – 301 redirect) to the new address and the search engines will start to update their records – as search engines crawl your site in their regular schedule – they will also start to update your URL
Yes you will loose some traffic for a short while but it should come back in I think a few weeks

Thanks auxclass.
So let simmer and sort itself out.
Good thing I checked.
I’m trying to make all my mistakes early before wiping out years of work with one clever click.
