I just upgraded to premium and the performance of the website has really degraded.

I recently purchased the upgrade from the free toonecycling.wordpress.com account to the toonecycling.com wordpress account. The performance is now terrible. Page loads take 3-4 times longer than prior to upgrade. Is there a setting I can fix to make my website load faster?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey there!

I took a look at your site history and the upgrade coincided with the addition of two posts with a rather large number of images. Because you have your site set up for Infinite Scroll, you display full posts on your front page, and all your posts appear to include a great number of images, it is possible this is one of the reasons your site is slowing down.

I’m going to have you try a couple tests, to help diagnose the issue.

    1. First, could you turn off your infinite scroll.

Also, adjust your blog settings to display just 1 at a time. Don’t worry, this is temporary. You can change this number when you’re done with the test.

You can make these changes here:
      https://toonecycling.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php?settings-updated=true

Save your changes, then reload your site. Let me know if this impacted your load time at all.

    2. Next, I want to test the following links:

      wordpress.com
      s1.wp.com
      sat.wordpress.com

Please let me know how the load time is on these pages.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Turning off the infinite scroll and letting it display just one blog at a time did the trick. It is now loading much faster. Also, the load time to wordpress.com, s1.wp.com, and sat.wordpress.com all continue to be fast which is why I was puzzled about the degradation in performance after upgrading. I guess it was just the coincidence of upgrading at the exact time I added two large posts! Thanks for your help. Brian Toone

Excellent! I thought that might be the case. Frankly, I’m glad since this is a much easier fix for you :)

Out of curiosity, have you ever considered adding a “more” tag to your posts? This way, you can choose the amount of text/images that will display on the front page, and visitors can click to see the full article. Might be a way to speed up load time for your homepage:

    en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!
