I just want Simplicity, it boggles my mind.

Some people are gift in one way, some in others. When I try and read the instructions to some of the problems I am having, it makes me dizzy. I don’t have the time to learn HTML…just have a couple of things I need to address:

1)My Flicker account : I can capture the badge code, but I want to put it in the top right of my side bar, to be there with every post…so I try and go to the top of my screen and view my Source code…and I cannot. (why?)

SO Where would I put my flicker badge ?

    2) the other issue is my URL address. Perhaps I am just Calling it the wrong thing, but when ever I list it ( and I believe it to be http://designergrl.wordpress.com – and then click on it to check it, when I do this within a discussion group and /or my Ebay About Me page…it says Page cannot be found.

    Why ?

    3) And lastly I can follow the instructions via my Paypal account to capture the Donation icon code…. but Where can I put IT so that it stands separately ..say on the top right of my side bar, too…instead of as a Link (which did not work, btw) ?

I think that these are the only issue I have right now. Everything else seems pretty do-able for a right brainer like me.

1 – Flickr support has been discussed times before.

2 – Please show us a page where you’ve place this link so we can see what you are doing.

3 – This was answered for you in your other thread.

WordPress will take out any information that it believes is javascript. The Form and inputlines in the code you posted above are javascript and will be removed (stripped) by wordpress (automatically!) when you hit the save/update button.

    Hope this helps

  • If you get the paypal email link that will work, just their silly form thing won’t.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok…I copied the above code, put it in a link and added the link. It says
paypal donation button on my side bar(which is ok, I guess) yet when I click on it, it takes me to a Cannot find server page. i thought WordPress was supposed to take out the stuff it didn’t like ? :(

    designergrl

  • Unknown's avatar

It does take out the stuff it doesn’t like. It is leaving in the stuff it does (like the link for example). This means that the link that it is providing is meaningless as it doesn’t have anything else to go with it (like the paypal user information. For example it is leaving in

    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"

    but taking out

    <input type="hidden" name="encrypted" value="-----BEGIN PKCS7-----MIIHVwYJKoZIhvcNAQcEoIIHSDCCB0QCA QExggEwMIIBLAIBADCBlDCBjjELMAkGA 1UEBhMCVVMxCzAJBgNVBAgTAkNBMRYwFAYDVQQHEw1Nb3 VudGFpbiBWaWV3MRQwEgYDVQQK EwtQYXlQYWwgSW5jLjETMBEGA1UEC xQKbGl2ZV9jZXJ0czERMA8G A1UEAxQIbGl2ZV 9hcGkxHDAaBgkqhkiG9w0BCQEWDXJlQHBheXBhb C5jb20CAQAwDQYJKoZIhvcNAQEBBQAEgYBlE gI1Khz47FXPVGB4XuNLAPWqSqd4JD/iDNTIaI5BtkzYXV55W/....<snip>

Without that information the paypal button just ain’t gonna work I’m afraid.

  • Unknown's avatar

O-k, then why can I not get back to my oaypal account via the “button/link” then ?

Hugs, you are being so patient !

Hi, went and checked out PayPal. This was getting confusing!

Log into PayPal then go to this link:
    https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick-donations-factory

Now you can enter the relevant info about the donations you want to accept. Ignore the “Donation Button” section, it’s not going to affect the result.

On the “Security Settings” section, select “No” to encrypting the payment button. This just means your email address isn’t hidden on the page (only way to get this working with WordPress at present), the payment is still secure.

Now click “Create Button Now” and you’ll be taken to a new page. On this page find the bit that says “Link for Emails”. Use that link as the link on your WordPress blog.

If you want the standard PayPal button image on your blog, use the following as the Image URI:

    Good luck!

  • Unknown's avatar

Is there a nonsecure image for use? (I don’t use Paypal either anymore) I would think that using that one would cause a warning to be thrown up in the visitor’s browser. (ie secure and nonsecure postions of the website.)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good point :)

Works the same as far as I can see.

Also, RE: the eBay “about you” page, the link that is on there works fine for me. Are you still having the problem?

  • Unknown's avatar

Jeez! I’ve spent all morning on this! FYI, none of this information tells us how to add the &^%$^*(()((&^& button to our blogs! Nowhere else either! The instructions above tell how to get a button from Paypal, but paypal already gives those, and I’ve done it. You say, write to feedback; I asked Support and they directed me here. I’m up to my eyeballs in frustration! I’ve also been unable to add Feedblitz. this totally sux.

  • Unknown's avatar

Please just take a deep breath. We have all been frustrated but being rude doesn’t result in getting help. :)
I typed “flickr badge” into the forum search box and found out the following:
    (1) It appears that there is no way to display the flickr badge and the only way available is to use the sidebar widget. The wp programming is stripping out the code to preserve security.

Just for reference, you asked about flickr badges, not flickr photos. Badges are not allowed due to their being based on javascripts which would be a security threat to this multi-user blogging platform that we all share. This explains why javascript is stripped. Many folks use pics from Flickr photos. That’s been covered many times as well and there’s a FAQ on the subject as well here http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/javascript-can-i-use-that-on-my-blog/

    (2) I can’t find any recommendation to you to send in a feedback in this thread but my eyesight is not the best so perhaps I missed it. The only reason staff would send you back here is if they knew that the question had been previously answered in the forum and if you refer to (1) above that’s the case so there’s no need to be steamed.

    (3) There are other current threads on the support forum right now on “feedburner” and enough “feedburner” threads in the forum search box to choke a hippo. There’s an example of one placed in a text widget in a sidebar here http://engtech.wordpress.com/ and I think this is the code for it `<img src=”http://www.feedburner.com/fb/images/pub/feed-icon32x32.png” height=”32″ width=”32″>
You will have to register at feedburner and get the image there and this will help you too http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/18/put-an-image-in-your-sidebar/

    (4) I have been able to find another code you may be interested in, in the FAQs search box. VOILA! http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/11/how-can-i-offer-email-updates/
I do not use feedburner and you have the instructions so now I’m off to help other people.

Happy blogging (and remember to breathe :D *lol*). Best wishes.

P.S. I’m also making a call to more experienced bloggers to check the advice I have given here and to correct it where required.

  • Unknown's avatar

exactly what TT said, barring this correction to the feed icon link: (pasting code ain’t easy)

    <a href="http://marcys.wordpress.com/feed" title="subscribe"><img src="http://www.feedburner.com/fb/images/pub/feed-icon32x32.png" height="32" width="32" /></a>

    re: drmike’s question:
the donation link button is here:

  • Unknown's avatar

    @sunburntkamel
Ding dong the post I made is to old to edit the code so it links … arghhh! … but hopefully the blogger will notice your correction. Thanks so much for taking the time to double check my advice. :)
P>S> I’m tagging this so we can find it again quickly. Both Marcys and I spent a lot of valuable time running around in circles and I don’t want to see that happening again.

  • Unknown's avatar

Marcy’s use the Paypal code that that give you but use teh email version of the link, not the HTML version.

I do a walk through on how to do it here. Just use that link within a link on your blog and add in the URL for the image listed above. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Just for reference, I found it by searching for Paypal.

I’m not sure why TT is discussing flickr badges or feedburner.

    Hope this helps,
    -drmike

    @marcy and drmike
I would like to offer you my humble apology for not reading this thread carefully enough to see that marcy had diverged from the line of questions posed by the original poster. I then mis-read feedblitz as feedburner. I caused myself a lot of work and a headache for nothing. I also probably confused marcy during the process I’m very sorry. :(
